Finnish company Nokia is back in the consumer electronics business just months after it sold its mobile phone business to Microsoft. Nokia has announced its “first Nokia-branded AndroidTM tablet” Nokia N1 on Tuesday at the Slush technology conference in Helsinki. The new tablet will be produced under a brand-licensing agreement with OEM partner Foxconn who will take care of its manufacturing, distribution as well as sales.
Sebastian Nyström, Head of Products at Nokia Technologies said, “We are pleased to bring the Nokia brand back into consumers’ hands with the N1 Android tablet, and to help make sophisticated technologies simple.”
The N1 is a thin, light and sleek 6.9mm thin aluminum tablet available in Lava Grey and Natural Aluminum colors. It features a 7.9-inch laminated display, the Nokia Z Launcher and the Android Lollipop operating system. The Nokia Z Launcher allows users to “scribble a letter or two to find their content quickly. Over time the Z Launcher learns what applications are in use, and predicts and highlights the applications consumers are expected to want based on time of day and location.“
