Panasonic LUMIX DMC-FZ1000 Is The World’s First 4K Video Compact Camera

People who are on the fence about getting an SLR or a Compact camera will find that the LUMIX DMC-FZ1000 is the camera they were looking for. dSLRs are great cameras but they are pretty expensive, big, and kinda heavy too. Similarly, smaller and lighter compact cameras often come at a price of image quality.

Panasonic has fixed this by bridging the two by using a 1-inch 20-megapixel MOS sensor. This sensor is at least 4 times larger than the 1/2.3-inch sensors that most longzoom cameras like Panasonic’s FZ200 have.

Panasonic has come out with the LUMIX DMC-FZ1000, its new point and shoot or compact camera. They claim that this is the first of its kind, and that there are no other cameras out there in the compact form factor that feature 4K video recording capabilities.

The LUMIX DMC-FZ1000 has a 1-inch 20.1 megapixel CMOS sensor. It has the same CMOS sensor as the Sony RX10. Its lens is a massive 25-400mm (F2.8 – F4.0) zoom lens. It has the ability to shoot up to ISO12,800 with low noise. The autofocus on this camera uses Panasonic’s Depth from Defocus technology. This allows the LUMIX DMC-FZ1000 to focus in 0.17 seconds at the tele end and 0.09 seconds at the wide end.

The LUMIX DMC-FZ1000 is capable of recording 4k videos in 3840×2160 at 30fps. It records at 100Mbps nitrate so users can take 8 megapixel still images from the recorded video. It supports Wi-Fi and NFC wireless file transfer which is really useful when copying images to a smartphone or tablet.
