Microsoft Brings in Light Beam Method for Charging SmartphonesIt looks like modernization has struck Microsoft, the company’s Research wing is putting efforts in  a new project  to charge mobile phones and it has been named  as AutoCharge. Its aim is to develop a flawless smartphone charging device which requires no assistance from cables or charging pads.

The prototype charging system of Microsoft applies a mixture of image identification and solar charging to detect if there is any smartphone on the table and then begins launching charging photons at it. Microsoft states that the new prototype light charger automatically identifies smartphone in 0.3 seconds and starts charging it at a rate equal to the current wired chargers.

Solar charging is a much unanticipated solution for such a function, as both indoor and indoor usage is impractical because of scattered and weak lighting inside the room or the user having smartphone inside his pocket where the light cannot reach.

Microsoft must develop a way to make indoor charging possible and to available it for 24 hours each day. This function is enabled by launching a direct beam of intense light with little distribution, which permits it to transmit the required charge.

The image identification is done by a camera that examines a surface. Algorithms notice when a smartphone that needs charging is in the view of camera, and then the rotating motor accurately positions the charging beam so that it strikes the correct spot.

The smartphone does require a solar panel in order to charge, but that will take some time for the designers to start putting solar panel in cell phones.
