NVIDIA Tegra K1 Destroys Tegra 4 and Snapdragon 801 in Benchmarks

The Tegra K1 is the fastest in Nvidia’s latest series of SoCs. SoC stands for system on a chip, so its basically a chip with contains not only the GPU but many other components like wifi and RAM and other stuff. The Tegra K1 chip is to be released in both 32 bit and 64 bit forms. The 32 bit chips are to be released first. Since Tegra K1 is a huge leap in performance, we have been waiting patiently for a phone to be released that takes advantage of the Tegra K1′s muscle.

After several months of waiting its finally here, Xiaomi has announced the first tablet to use the Tegra K1. This could mean that the Tegra K1 will now start appearing in more devices soon. Thats all great but how does it fare against the Snapdragon 801 and the Tegra 4? I hear you ask. Well lets look at some graphs and find out. As a matter of fact I have some graphs right here. Lets take a look.

 

Nvidia Tegra K1 Punches Competition In The Face

Nvidia  has been telling us that the Tegra K1 will be extremely powerful. Nvidia is using the CUDA technology in this chip, making it the first of its kind. In fact they are even making claims that the Tegra K1 is 50 times faster than the Tegra 2, and that it can beat the Xbox 360 and the PS3 all the while consuming less power. Now thats just ridiculous Nvidia.

 

Wow, that was a lot. Well we can tell by looking at these graphs that the blue line is winning a lot. It must be faster and its probably better than those snapdragon 801 and and tegra 4 chips.

The K1 is faster in browsing and games, and it doesn’t use a lot of power either. It really impressed us, We live in interesting times and a lot of interesting things are definitely happening in the smartphone tech industry.

Samsung is developing Oculus Rift-like VR headsets for Galaxy devices: Report

Samsung could announce the Oculus Rift competitor this year in an effort to beat Facebook’s Oculus Rift and Sony’s Project Morpheus in the virtual world. Given Samsung’s propensity to compete in every conceivable product category, this isn’t too surprising.

The  virtual reality based headset will reportedly be used with Samsung’s Galaxy devices, much like its Gear smartwatches. Samsung has even shipped prototypes of the device to some developers already, according to a report in Engadget. Rather than being a PC or game console peripheral, Samsung’s headset links to a Galaxy phone to create its virtual environment. It’s a demanding device, though: The consumer version will require the power of next-generation flagship processors, the report states.

So far, there are no photos of the alleged prototype headset, but the report has a few details.It is said to feature an OLED display that is “as good or better” than the 1080p OLED in the latest Oculus Rift. The headset won’t run Tizen, the OS in the new Gear watches. Engadget predicts it will use a wired, rather than wireless, connection to minimize things like lag.It will likely have a wired rather than wireless connection to Samsung’s current smartphones and tablets

The virtual reality handset will also be used for Android gaming, but we’ve got no details right now on just what games would qualify as handset-compatible. What we do know, surprisingly, is that Samsung looks to price its virtual reality handset competitively in order to win customers. The company has taken a somewhat premium pricing scheme with its Gear smartwatches and its Gear Fit fitness band, Sony’s Morpheus project looks to be priced around $500 – and Samsung may price its virtual reality handset anywhere from $250-$400 in order to make inroads in the mobile virtual reality platform.
