Google begins Official Roll-Out of the all new Gmail app for Android

Google has officially announced the updated more modern Gmail app for Android devices. The new Gmail APK was already doing the rounds since the past few days and many of you may have already downloaded it. The new app will be available on Google Play and will support devices running Android 4.0 and above.

According to Google, the Gmail app is “getting updated with a more modern style, sleeker transitions, and a few other handy improvements.” We have already seen the various enhancements in design and functionality in the previously leaked APK. The official version is the same.

The most important change in the functionality is that the new Gmail app supports all email providers that use POP/IMAP. For instance if you have an email account with Outlook.com, Yahoo Mail or other providers supporting POP/IMAP, you can now have separate inboxes for them. These inboxes show on the sliding out navigation menu and you can switch accounts easily.

There has also been a major change in design as the Gmail app has received Google’s new “Material Design”. Of course, many other apps such as Chrome, Play Store, Wallet and Newsstand have got it too as Google is slowly pushing its Material Design concept across various apps.

The new design gives the Gmail 5.0 a flatter look and is more bright and colorful with animations. The header is catchy red and there is a reply button below every message making it easy for the user to reply even when he is on the go.

Have you got the new Gmail app yet? How do you like it?

Updated Gmail 5.0 APK with Material Design and Exchange Support available for Android

After release Google’s new email app Inbox by Gmail that promises to change the way your emails are organized, Gmail is offering a revamped Gmail 5.0.  With the release of Android 5.0 Lollipop, Google is updating many of its apps and the latest app to get major updates is the Gmail which will be updated to the new 5.0 version.

Google has been updating its apps by applying its new “Material Design” which it had showcased at this year’s I/O and which offers a completely new design interface with a lot of visual as well as functional enhancements compared to the previous Android versions.

According to AnandTech, the most conspicuous change in the Material Design interface of the new Gmail 5.0 app is the color change. In the old version, unread messages were white and they turned to grey once they had been read. In the new design, the read messages are normal font while new unread messages are bold and background is white for all.

The header and status bar, and the round compose button for new email are all red. The contact photos are displayed in circles instead of squares. The navigation drawer has been changed from grey to white and your Google+ cover photo is displayed at the top.

The app has a new thread interface featuring auto-updating email threads. It will provide support for corporate/exchange accounts and handle all your email accounts of other email providers such as Yahoo, Outlook, AOL Mail, iCloud Mail and other services that support IMAP/POP. You can thus access all your email accounts with a single app.
