Google Fit able to track on calorie with the new update

Google Fit is Google’s service which enable the users to keep track on their health like how many steps do they do within one day, how is their sleep, among many other functionalities. With the latest update, Google Fit will have the capability to estimate the number of calories that the users have burned within a period of an activity.

To activate it, you will just have to enter your height and gender and the apps will be able to project the calories that you have burned in addition to time spent active for the calculation. It will be similar to HealthKit which is developed for iOS platform. Google Fit is involving a lot of other fitness companies such as Adidas, Nike, Withings, Intel and RunKeeper.

In the presentation by Ellie Powes, Google’s product manager, it seems like Fit is just a platform for the health device manufacturer to enable their device to sync with Android. It comes with a set of APIs which is kind of open-source which can make all devices to be technically works with all health/fitness software. It seems like Google is working in the opposite direction of Apple.

Apple on the other hand, is developing a dedicated app that collects all your data but anonymously. Apple is intending to use this system to categorize all the people who has similar sickness to find possible cures for the disease.

GOOGLE FIT revealed during the Google I/O press conference is Android’s answer to Apple’s Healthkit platform.It will be a platform through which Android and Google customers can track and manage their healthcare and fitness data across multiple applications and devices including the newly-announced Samsung Gear Live smartwatch.

Some of the initial partners supporting Google Fit include Adidas, Basis, Nike, RunKeeper, Noom, Runtastic, and Withings, meaning the software will work with the likes of the Fuelband. The problem with all this smart fitness stuff is that the data always resides in individual silos. RunKeeper has your running data, Nike Fuel has another motion data, your weightlifting statistics are stuck in Fitocracy, your weight is tracked by Withings.Google will try to sync all together adequately with Google Fit.

Google will release an SDK in the coming weeks so developers can integrate Google Fit into their Android apps. As an example, Google explained a fitness app from Noom (a company that makes a number of individual fitness apps for weight loss, step counting, and carido training). It presented an integrated view of meals logged, steps taken, and even weight data from a Withings scale. The point is this: With your explicit permission, your fitness apps can share data with each other, giving you a more detailed view of your health and activity.

However, Google has been keen to point out that the user will be given full control over what apps can see fitness data, and will be able to delete data at any time.There’s no word on official availability of Google Fit,but it is likely to debut alongside Android L in the autumn.

Google Fit To Launch At I/O 2014

Wearable tech is another emerging market where the big tech companies of the world are duking it out to see who can win the most market share. The dominant theme for devices in the wearables market seems to be health tracking and health related products.

Google showed interest in the wearables market by first releasing Android Wear, an Android OS for wearables. Android Wear enables developers to make applications for different wearable devices using the Android Wear SDK. Applications make for Android Wear should run on all compatible devices running a version of Android Wear OS.

It looks like Google wants to announce its own line of wearable health monitoring devices. Google Fit seems to be Google’s answer to the wearable health monitoring products already released by Apple, Samsung, and others.

Google seems to be keeping an eye on Apple and their health related wearable product “HealthKit” which works together with iOS 8. It is still unclear as to what exactly Google is planning to do in response to its competitors.

If Google is about to announce Google Fit, then Google I/O is the best place to do it.

Whatever they might announce, it will probably use Android Wear if its a wearable. Google I/O is held for two days and starts on the 25th of June. It is scheduled to take place a few weeks after Apple’s developer conference.
