NVIDIA 8inch Shield Tablet with Tegra K1 processor goes official

After staying much in news through various leaks, NVIDIA has officially announced its much awaited 8inch Shield tablet.

The tablet comes with 8inch IPS LCD display having a resolution of 1920×1200 pixels and as expected, it is powered with the Tegra K1 chipset. In addition, it has a dual-core Cortex A15 CPU clocked at 2.2GHz along with a 192-core Kepler GPU. The NVIDIA Shield tablet can record 4k videos as well! The device consists of a microHDMI port which can stream games from a GeForce GTX-powered PC via the NVIDIA GameStream technology. The memory options for the device include a 2GB of RAM and 128GB of internal-expandable memory via microSD card slot. The device has the same 5MP camera both on its front as well as at the back. The battery capacity of the device is sufficient enough to offer 10 hours of HD video playback and nearly 2-4 hours of gaming.

The gaming on the tablet comes with Nvidia’s DirectStylus 2 passive stylus which is considered to be accelerated through the GPU. Moreover, NVIDIA has also launched a new Shield wireless controller, which of-course doesn’t come with the tablet, but connects to it via Wi-Fi Direct and costs an additional amount of $59. The Shield Tablet has the capacity of connecting four controllers to it.

The NVIDIA Shield tablet comes in two storage options of 16GB Wi-Fi and 32GB Wi-Fi + LTE variant that costs $299 and $399. The tablet is expected to hit the US markets in the coming weeks while Europe and UK will get it from mid-August.

Global Certification Forum confirms a K1 powered SHIELD tablet from NVIDIA

Recent report from Global Certification Forum shows that NVIDIA SHIELD will arrive in the market in the form of a mid-sized Android tablet instead of a handheld gaming device. According to sources, this mid-sized tablet could be the 7.9 inch NVIDIA Mocha that comes with K1 CPU and was spotted on the GFX Benchmark last May.

Reports show that there are chances that silicon slinger could be offering the slate themselves as the company has received certification from the Global Certification Forum. This Forum handles its certification for devices having 3G technology.

However, before arriving at conclusions it has been said that NVIDIA would use the SHIELD name for the device that would be linked up with video game play. Now this could possibly mean that the Android tablet would make up for half the unit with the remaining half being a detachable gaming controller. This month on July 22, NVIDIA is expected to hold a official event when things are likely to get more clear.

NVIDIA Shield Tablet Launching Soon With Gamestream Support

NVIDIA’s “The Shield”  ,as a handy Android gaming-system,has been performing quite well   in the market and now it is moving on to include another one very soon. This forthcoming device will supposedly be called the NVIDIA Shield tablet and will attach the company’s powerful Tegra K1 processor with itself. Gamestream will provide support so it will deal with PC games as well.

The distinction between the existing Shield device and the future Shield Tablet is, the physical controls attached to a 5 inch touch-screen display in existing one. The latter is simply a tablet even though there is no Intel on what its display size will be.

The newly reported NVIDIA Mocha tablet,one with a 7.9-inch and  a resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels display (which uses unique clock speed of 2.1 GHz  available in  Tegra K1 processor )could possibly be the NVIDIA Shield tablet. It is likely to be the Shield branding on this device as its hardware-specifications seems like one of a gaming system.

NVIDIA‘s existing tablet is the Tegra Note 7 which uses a Tegra 4 CPU. It has a 7-inch display and a budget of $199. It’s not yet confirmed openly by the company rather its partners such as EVGA and ZOTAC are selling the device under different brand names.

The Tegra Note 7 couldn’t possibly be the Shield tablet that the company is aiming to release.Reasonfor the same is, it is not able to hold up the Gamestream aspects. For Gamestream to work it requires access to 5 GHz Wi-Fi network, which Tegra Note 7 can not do.

The benchmark results propose the idea that the Mocha will be using the influential Tegra K1 processor and that it will sport a 7-inch display with 2048×1536 pixels resolution. It is loaded with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage space. The Tegra K1 chip will have four Cortex-A15 cores bragging  a maximum clock speed of 2.1 GHz.

Even if consumers have been living their games on tablets for quite some time now, NVIDIA desires to alter this by offering a little unique. The key selling point in Shield tablet is its capability to stream PC games. No doubt in the fact that assured requirements must be convinced for example, having a desktop or a laptop with the right hardware.

The other specifications like:

1)GPU: Notebook (select Kepler-based GTX 600M ,GeForce GTX 800M, GTX 700M and),Desktop ( GeForce GTX 650 or higher GPU),

2)CPU: AMD Athlon II X4 630 2.8 GHz orIntel Core i3-2100 3.1GHz or  higher

3)  System Memory:  It has to be 4 GB +

4)  Software: It will showcase GeForce Experience application and latest GeForce drivers

5) OS: Windows 7 or Windows 8

6)Routers: 802.11a/g router (minimum). 802.11n dual band router (recommended)

Having such hardware requirementsmet, regular gamers will be able to stream PC titles such as DOTA 2 , League of Legends and World of Warcraft

Half Life 2 And Portal Released For (some) Android Devices [VIDEO]

People in the Android community have been talking about this for a few months and now its finally here. The one and only world renowned super game publisher Valve has brought two of its most famous games to the Android operating system, but its not for everyone.

The hype started last week when Valve leaked a few pictures of what seemed like a port of Half Life 2 for Android. They also sent a crowbar which had the Half Life 2 logo on its side to a publication. As many of you might know, the crowbar is the first weapon that you are given in the game and its your trusted weapon for many levels in the game. This was a clear indication that something was gonna be announced soon.

Both games went on sale today for a price tag of $9.99. All the hype was pointing towards Half Life 2 and than Portal was released rather silently, but thats just how Valve does things. They know what they’re doing.

As of this release these games can only be played on the nvidia Shield. No other Android device is currently supported. This means that a lot of people will not be able to play Half Life 2 or Portal on their Android devices but there’s a chance that some hackers will take a shot at circumventing this restriction soon.

Both of these games have been around for quite some time  on the PC. Half Life 2 was released in 2004 and Portal was released in 2007. Both of these games have won numerous Game of the Year awards. Portal  has better graphics than Half Life 2.

Video games from major game developers are coming to the Android platform. Android devices are taking more and more of the portable gaming market from Sony and Nintendo. It should be interesting to see what they intend to do about it. Maybe they both should start migrating some of their services to iOS and Android, at least Nintendo seems to think so.
