There are a few risks of using Uber apps on smartphones which are already known since the apps have been released a few years ago. Firstly, there is normally a doubt whether the driver of the car is a qualified driver and secondly whether whatever that is advertised on the apps is what the consumer is really getting in the reality. Not only the above two risks that a consumer faced when using Uber apps, there are a few other issues surfaced even after you used the app for a few times.

One of the scenarios that could have happen is that when you were ordering from Uber and it happened that you ordered a really expensive car in a really reasonable pricing, however, at that time; you really need to go to your destination urgently. As you were waiting, maybe there were a few empty regular taxis which you could flagged in order to reach your destination in a shorter time.

Another scenario that could have happen is that you were going out with your mother and she wanted you to buy something from the convenience store and so she parked the car at the road side. While waiting for you, a drunken man opened the back door of the car and started asking your mother to go to his destination. Your mother might be surprised of the incident and tried to drag the man out of the car. After a few moments, the drunken man said that he was just trying to find his Uber driver.

You Might be Able to Request for Uber Ride with Other Apps

Uber is an app which provides transportation service to the consumers. Uber has two types of consumers, one is the drivers who sign up to provide the service, and another one is the consumers like you and me who need to use the service. It seems to be a good app, however, many government and taxi companies have protested against Uber since the drivers might be unsafe or illegal.

In August 2014, Uber launched its API to open up the service to third-party apps developer.  However, this API has limited features; it only allows the third party apps to send the destination address of the consumer to Uber as well as for the consumer to view ride histories.  With the updated API, there is a new feature added called “Request endpoint”.  Therefore, the third party apps will have the full Uber experience by using the updated API. On top of that, it also opens more possibilities on how users will use the app in the future.

One way that this Uber plugin can be used is on occasion when you want to decide where to have dinner today and you open an app that provides restaurant review, as you read the review, you can also request the Uber service by using the same app. You will not have to open the Uber app specifically to do that.

Uber has already working with companies such as Starbucks, United, OpenTable, TimeOut and TripAdvisor for an affiliate program.

Uber is an app which offers convenience to people like you and me who wants a ride to our destination or people who wants to earn extra pocket money by becoming a driver to drive his/her passenger(s) from a location to another location. The fees are definitely lower than traditional taxi services and the drivers are qualified drivers.

Google Venture, Google’s capital arm, has invested $258 million onUber in August 2013. On top of that David Drummond, Google’s chief legal officer and senior vice president of corporate development, joined Uber board of directors in 2013.

Recently, Google has released leaks that the tech giant is preparing for its own ride-hailing service which also in conjunction with its long term driverless car project. Drummond has informed Uber’s board about this possibility and the Uber executives have seen the screenshots of the car-sharing apps, which is currently used by Google employees.  There are also leaks that the Uber board is now considering whether to ask Drummond for resignation as a Uber board member.

Uber, on the other hand, is teaming up with Carnegie Mellon University to develop its own autonomous vehicle technology in a research facility in Pittsburgh Pa.

One possible scenario to use autonomous vehicles is that it will patrol around the neighborhood to pick up and drop off passengers as mentioned by Chris Urmson, Google executive in charge of the project, during Detroit auto show last month. On top of that, Chief Executive Officer Larry Page is mentioned to be excited with the challenges to make cities operate more efficiently. Google recently announce that the driverless car technology is ready for public use in another two to four years more.
