Xiaomi teases Redmi 1S successor, a Dual 4G LTE version for January 4 launch

Chinese phone maker Xiaomi has teased about a successor to its popular smartphone Redmi 1S on its Weibo account by uploading a picture and claiming that the company will release its new version on January 4, Sunday. The picture has 3 women holding colorful smartphones with their back panels showing. These back panels resemble the panel seen in the TENNA listing image of Redmi 1S successor.


A 64-bit handset, touted to be the successor of Xiaomi Redmi 1S recently passed through AnTuTu and TENNA. According to the leaked specifications, the new smartphone has two SIM card slots and both will support 4G LTE connectivity. The current dual-SIM Redmi 1S does not support LTE.

Other features of the new Redmi 1S successor include a 4.7-inch (1280×720p) HD display, LTE enabled 64-bit quad-core Snapdragon 410 chipset clocked at 1.2GHz with Adreno 306 GPU, 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage expandable up to 32GB via microSD card. It will sport an 8MP rear camera and a 2MP front-facing one, and will be powered by a 2,200 mAh battery.


The handset will run Android 4.4.4 KitKat with MIUI 6.0 and will support GSM, WCDMA, TD LTE and LTE FDD networks. The device will  have dimensions of 134×67.21×9.2mm and weight if 132g (26g less than the current Redmi 1S).


The Redmi 1S successor is supposed to go on sale in January itself, soon after its launch.

VIVO X5 Max, the world’s thinnest smartphone set to release this December

We have already heard many rumors about VIVO’s upcoming smartphone X5 Max that is going to be only 4.75mm in thickness. Well, it is official now. The company has posted teaser images of X5 Max on its Weibo page officially confirming its existence. According to rumors, the said handset will be unveiled this December. Upon its official launch, X5 Max will become the world’s thinnest smartphone displacing the current reigning champion, the 4.85mm thin Oppo R5.

VIVO does not reveal much on its page except nicknaming it as “Thin Heartstrings X5 Max” in Chinese. The images show it to be a very thin smartphone with great audio and a body made of metal alloy.


The X5 Max is touted to have a 5.5-inch display with a 1920 x 1080p resolution, octa-core 1.7Ghz MT6752 chipset probably from MediaTek, 2GB RAM, 16GB internal storage, 13MP rear camera and a 5MP front-facing camera. The device will have LTE connectivity and run Android 4.4.4 KitKat. Dimensions of the handset would be 153.9mm x 78mm x 4.75mm.

No details about its battery or pricing are available. Traditionally, VIVO launches its smartphones only in China but the world’s thinnest smartphone may be made available in internatonal markets too. Stock Android 5.0 Lollipop running on Xiaomi Mi2 spotted

Android 5.0 Lollipop, the latest version of Android announced by Google recently is much in the news. Everyone wants to have Android 5.0 running on their smartphones. Google’s Nexus 6 phablet and Nexus 9 are the first devices to run on Android 5.0 Lollipop. Other manufacturers are working on getting this new OS running on their devices.


Now some images of Xiaomi Mi2 have surfaced on Weibo running Stock Android 5.0 Lollipop. At least it appears so from the wallpaper. In the pictures, the handset doesn’t seem to have any signal or any indication of the Wi-Fi being on.


A Chinese MIUI developer @akiba wind ivan has posted these Xiaomi Mi2 pictures on his Weibo account. He says that there are still some key bugs that need working out and so he cannot give any confirmed launch date when the ROM can be made available but he promises to release it at the earliest.


Xiaomi Mi2 is a mid range smartphone and was released way back in 2012. It boasts of a 4.3-inch 720p LCD display, a powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 1.5 GHz Quad-core processor, Adreno 320 GPU, 2 GB of RAM, 16/32GB of internal storage, and 8MP and 2MP cameras.


As such, Xiaomi hasn’t yet announced a new MIUI based on Android 5.0 Lollipop. But Xiaomi Mi2 users can rejoice that they can get the Stock Android 5.0 Lollipop on their handsets soon.
