Screenshots showing the WhatsApp voice calls for iPhone leaked

Last month, some screenshots for the voice calling feature of WhatsApp on Android platform had leaked. Now this feature has been included in the latest version of WhatsApp on the Google Play Store which is the 2.11.561. However, recently an Indian iPhone uers has come with the screenshots which shows up the voice calling feature of WhatsApp running on an iPhone device.

This voice calling feature for the Apple iPhone has arrived on the version 2.11.17.444 of the WhatsApp application which is currently said to be under the beta stage and thus could be installed on only jailbroken iPhone handsets. The current version of the messaging application on App Store shows 2.11.16 that is without the voice calling feature. Looking to the screenshots below, you would see some small changes to the UI and a phone icon could be seen below the user’s profile picture. A tap on the dialer button would navigate you to the dialer which is similar to that on the iPhone. There is a “recent” button on the page which shows the call history registered with the app.

However, there is no word when would this official rolling of the voice-calling-feature for iPhone users would take place but looking to its availability on the Android platform we assume it to be coming soon to the iOS platform as well. An Italian iPhone site has tested this feature which you can see in the video below.

The calling feature from the popular messaging app WhatsApp has been talked since long. Now recently, a Reddit user has released some screenshots which shows that WhatsApp is all set to bring in the calling feature for its Android App. The images posted by pradnesh07 shows that the app is planning to use an invitation system wherein one user having this feature puts a voice call to another WhatsApp user after which the called user would be able to make WhatsApp calls hence after. Moreover, in bringing the voice call feature, the app update also puts Material Design look to WhatsApp.

Users can currently get the update from the Google Play Store for which they need to get the apk file from WhatsApp by navigating the source link below. The file size is 18.52MB and would require Android 2.1 and higher and to get the calling feature you need to have a Android 4.4 KitKat and above version running your Android handset.

One more Reddit user – Tropiux has found out another way out to make use of the feature without the need for an invite. “Go to terminal…insert this command with root privileges…am start -n com.whatsapp/com.whatsapp.HomeActivity.” Users will have to follow each time to make a call. On getting enabled, you need to call someone using the latest app version which would activate the call feature on his/her handset and once after if the same person calls you back, the feature would get permanently enabled at your end too. Leaked image shows up the voice calling feature of WhatsApp

There have been quite a lot amount of rumors pertaining to the introduction of voice calling feature to the popular social networking website WhatsApp. Last month, we brought you with some leaked icons showing up the possibility of existence of this feature. Now this once again an Android focused website namely the Androidworld.nl has arrived with some leaked screenshot showing up the existence of the voice calling feature in WhatsApp. The feature is said to be currently in the testing phase which is currently being tested by the employees and is said to be soon included in the official build upon its announcement.

The above leaked screenshots show that the voice call dialing would get its own separate screen showing up the WhatsApp contacts, ongoing calls and call logs. One of the shots showing up the conversation windows also shows somw missed call icons and received calls. However, we would like to take it with a grain of salt as confirming the authenticity of the screenshot is difficult at the moment and as such there is no such confirmation even from the company of its testing this feature through a beta build.

Earlier, while speaking to an industry conference in October, WhatsApp CEO Jan Koum had said that the delay in launching this feature was due to some technical shortcomings in its implementation and said that the company is planning to bring it till the Q1 of 2015. Well, one thing is sure that competitors like WeChat, Line and Viber have t be very alert as this big giant is making its way into their arena.

WhatsApp to come out with a web-based chat service?

WhatsApp is the most popular mobile instant messaging service today, free and available on all major mobile platforms such as Android, iPhone, BlackBerry, Windows Phone and Symbian. There are rumors that we would soon be seeing it on the web. According to rumors, a web version of WhatsApp has been developed by which WhatsApp messages could be sent through a computer and it is called as “WhatsApp web”.

Two different versions of WhatsApp messenger app are available – One through its own website and the other through Google Play Store. When folks at AndroidWorld compared the website version of December 9 (2.11.471) and Google Play Store version (2.11.432), they found several strings in the app mentioning “web_session” and “whatsapp_web” as can be seen below:

They also found evidence for this in images and layout files in the installation package. Below is a screenshot showing web session in a computer. It shows the list of computers that are logged in to WhatsApp Web and has a button below from where you can log out of the WhatsApp Web from all computers.

This seems to be a testing phase and very little info is available at present. Guys at AndroidWorld also found that in version dated December 11, there were no references to WhatsApp Web. Maybe the WhatsApp people want to maintain secrecy about it and so they have removed it.

It may be kept in mind that developers keep experimenting on various ideas and all of them don’t necessarily bear fruit. So this WhatsApp web may or may not see the light of the day.

WhatsApp, which had over 600 million active users as of October 2014, has been acquired by Facebook this year for about $22 billion, a $3 billion increase over the original agreed amount of $19 billion.

WhatsApp, the world’s most popular messaging app recently celebrated its fifth birthday and has over 600 million users. If you are one of the WhatsApp users, you must have noticed a change in it since a couple of days. Some of the usual grey ticks you see next to your sent messages may have now turned to bright blue.

Yes, WhatsApp has made certain changes so that when someone reads your message, the double check marks next to it turn blue. In case of a message sent to a group or a broadcast message, the check marks will turn blue only when all the members/recipients have read the message.

These changes have been made by the company on the server side so you don’t have to download any updates. Every message you send will have a message info screen. This screen will show details about when your message was delivered to the recipient and when it was read or played by the person.

If you open your chat with a contact or a group, tap and hold on the sent message and then click on the logo of small “i” in a circle, you will see the message info screen.

The message info screen will show you the following:

  Delivered when your media is delivered to your recipient’s phone, but the recipient has not yet seen it.


• 
  Read or Seen when the recipient has read your message or seen your picture, audio file, or video. For a Voice Message, the recipient has seen but has not yet played it.


• 
  Played when the recipient has played your Voice Message.

If you fail to see the blue check marks it means that either the recipient has not opened your message or has the old version of WhatsApp. There could be connectivity issues too.

Leaked icons shows voice calling coming to WhatsApp

Back in September, there was rumor that WhatsApp is likely to arrive ahead with a voice calling feature. Now recent reports arriving from PhoneArena have revealed some icons that suggest that this messaging social media app would likely arrive with a facility of making phone calls.

Earlier this year, social networking giant Facebook bought out WhatsApp in a deal that included a whopping $21 billion billing to Facebook. Now it’s the responsibility of Facebook how to further groom this messaging app as with the superfast advancements in technology many things on social websites are much expected and are obvious with days coming. However, as on date, things are absolutely not clear as to how would the voice calls be introduced with data plans. We think this would get clear soon as Facebook makes out things official.

Google Developing Messaging App to Compete with WhatsApp

According to Economic Times report, Google is planning to launch its own messaging application on the lines of WhatsApp. Google plans to start testing the said app in India and other emerging markets globally. NIkhyl Singhal, who is a product management director for Photos,Hangouts, Google+ core & Platform, is also touring other countries in Asia Pacific to understand local ecosystems better.

Google failed to buy out WhatsApp, for which it had offered $10 billion, to Facebook which ultimately bought the messaging app for a whopping $19 billion.  WhatsApp has 65 million users in India of the 600 million global users. Other apps such as WeChat, Line, Viber and most recently Hike too have a user base upwards of 15 million users in India.

The Google messaging app is in the early stages of development and will most likely come out only in 2015, according to sources. This app will not force you to use your Google login credentials. Plans are on to add Indian language support and voice-to-text messaging. Also  the messenger will be free to use.

Even though the app will be reportedly free, Google may still be able to make money from the application in the same way that Facebook does. Wired suggested that Google would generate revenue “through a new breed of low-bandwidth ad or by using data about users to target ads in other places.”

Messaging apps are popular in emerging markets because they are cheaper than SMS messaging from a cellphone wireless provider. Also, the simplicity of the apps (which are usually free of advertising) have made it very popular for first-time Internet users in countries like India and China. Google is already trying to get its Android operating system on inexpensive phones in these markets, so adding a messaging app is the next step in hooking these users.

With the launch of the Android One phones in India  recently, Google is all set to woo the Indian consumer by offering affordable devices, in which there is a close amalgamation of the hardware and software side of things. With more players getting on the Android One platform, if Google could offer its upcoming messenger app in the native bundle, it could reach a lot of people.
