Garmin Announces VivoFit 2 – Fitness Tracking Watch


For many years in past, Garmin stayed in the top names of the companies which build the GPS devices. But when the smartphones hit the market, everyone got GPS in their hands. Garmin build its own smartphone nuvifone but it didn’t get hit due to its flaws. But in the field of wearables, Garmin has been successful since 2003 due to its manufacturing of GPS watches.


In 2014, Garmin got great success by introducing its watches with fitness tracker, called as Garmin VivoFit. So, Garmin introduced its VivoFit 2, the next version of its first hit at CES 2015 with a price of $129.99.


Official manufacturers of the device stated that the battery life of VivoFit 2 will last up to full one year and also it has an alert feature to remind the user about the health.


A backlight has been fitted in the wearable to make it easy to use in dark; also an activity tracker has been included in it to study the fitness workouts of the user.


A new stopwatch feature has also been included. Other than that, a new feature of personalized fitness goal has been put in the watch; it will also be able to keep track of burned calories. The watch is water resistant till 164 feet.


The VivoFit 2 will be available in many different colors, but the heart rate monitor version of the watch will have a price of $169.99. The VivoFit 2 by Garmin will be available in the starting months of this year.

Garmin, a Kansas-based company, which may or might not be familiar about, has launched three interesting wearable devices during this year’s CES. Although it is not a big name in the market, the brand has earned reputation for making high quality portable gadgets.

First in line is the Fenix 3 is a relatively like the Fenix 2 with some major updates. This smartwatch is pertained to as ‘smart multisport GPS watch’. Like a typical smartwatch it is Bluetooth-enabled and is connected to a smartphone. It is built with several sensors – step counter, compass, barometer, altimeter and more. And its main feature being the onboard GPS with GLONASS support for better accuracy.

Second of the three wearables from Garmin is Epix, which showcases rugged style. It is a modern version of the old school offline navigation devices packed in a small 1.4-inch color touchscreen and an integrated world basemap. Equipped with 8GB of onboard storage, this smartwatch also comes with a 1 year subscription for satellite for imagery updates to suit your mapping needs. and one more thing this device is to be commended for is its 50 meter water resistance rating.

And the last is the Vivoactive, which is also the most ‘smartwatch-like’ and most affordable of the three. It would be up for grabs early 2015 for only $249.99 or $299.99 with a heart-rate monitor. While the Fenix 3 is priced $499.99 or $549.99 and would be available during the first quarter of 2015. And the Epix which would be accessible in the market about the same time costs $549.99 or $599.99.

Garmin"s new Vivosmart fitness tracker is almost a smartwatch

Garmin has launched its next generation of activity tracker following on from the Vivofit, its new Vivosmart can also connect to their smartphone to display notifications.


The Garmin Vivosmart features a touchscreen OLED display which is capable of alerting you to calls, texts, calendar reminders emails and many more. Users can swipe through to read notifications including text messages. It can also be utilize to show step count, distance travelled, calories burned, goal countdown and more.


The Vivosmart band is waterproof upto 5 atmospheric water depth and has a battery life of up to seven days. You can wake the screen by double-tapping and swiping through various pages. It syncs automatically with a mobile using the Garmin Connect Mobile app, via Bluetooth. This data can also be synched with third party app MyFitnessPal.


The Vivosmart can also be paired with a heart rate monitor or bike speed sensor. It can even be used as a remote controller for the Garmin VIRB action cameras. It can also work to show when goals are met and vibrate to make sure you keep active. This can also be used as a subtle vibrating alarm each day.


The Garmin Vivosmart is expected to be available in mid-September, and it’s already available for pre-order from Best Buy for $170. The Garmin vivosmart will be available in berry, purple, blue, black and slate in small or large sizes from October.
