Galaxy Alpha might be metal iPhone 6 adversary

Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Alpha is expected to be the company’s response to the upcoming iPhone 6. Photos posted on the Chinese microblogging site Weibo reveals that the device is made of metal with a 4.8-inch screen and a “flagship S5 configuration,” which presumably means it has the same specs as the Galaxy S5.

Apple fans will quickly notice the chamfered edges in the pictures — a technique that Apple has used on both its iPhones and iPads. The leaker also says that the back is still removable, and pictures show the typical fingernail slot to peel away the back panel. There’s that physical Home button, which Samsung has been using for years, and the metal antenna band that’s become synonymous with Apple. The Galaxy Alpha is still running the same modified version of Android found on other Galaxy phones though, and the back apparently features the same dimpled plastic design found on the Galaxy S5.

Under the hood, the Galaxy Alpha is expected to offer a mix of high and mid-range specs, including a 4.8-inch 720p display, an Exynos 5433 octa-core processor, a 12-megapixel camera, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of non-expandable storage and a Nano SIM slot.

Reports suggest that Galaxy Alpha could be launched on August 13, a month earlier than Apple’s rumoured launch date for the iPhone 6. Apart from this, Samsung is all set to release the next in the Galaxy Note series – the Note 4 on September 3. The 5.7-inch Note 4 will sport a 20.7MP camera with optical image stabilisation and 4K recording.
