Sharp Reported to be Working on the Highest Smartphone Display Panel

Every smartphone manufacturer is competing to release the highest resolution of screen display. Just 3 years ago, the highest resolution is at 720p (1280 x 720) and with density of 300ppi. As time goes by and with larger screen display trend, manufacturer companies were looking to manufacture higher resolution to maintain the high PPI count. Thus the screen resolution becomes HD (1280 x 720) then becomes FHD (1920 x 1080) and the latest is QHD (2560 x 1440).

Some wonders is it even worth it to have such a high density pixel on a 5-inch screen in the expense of precious battery life? Even the OEMs are going towards the QHD slowly. Sony on the other hand said that it does not think that QHD is worth even on an 8-inch screen. The company is rumoured to equip the next Xperia with a 1440p panel.

According to a Japan-based media, Sharp is currently is working on the next generation of smartphone LCD panels with 4096 x 2160 (4K) resolution. The rumor said that Sharp was pressured to develop the pixel-dense screen due to demand from China. The company is ready for mass production in 2016 and it will be used in 5-inch or 6-inch displays.

The report also claims that Sharp is working on improving the quality of LTPS LCD panels by implementing a in-house developed method of using polycrystalline silicon fused with glass which in the end will produce more transparent and more vibrant display panel. The silicon is made of high purity multicrystalline form of silicon.

Lastly, rumor also said that Sharp is currently has a 600ppi phone display panel ready which should be released in China market starting in early next fiscal year.
