Although Android 5.0 Lollipop is a dream of majority smartphone owners, rumors of next-in-line Android M are out. Google is now heading towards automotive dashboards with the objective of injecting Android directly into cars. It will be devoid of smartphones as well as dated proprietary interfaces on blurry displays.

Android M might be the next step after Android Auto which is scheduled to come next year.Currently,Android Auto is far from a seamless solution, since it requires pairing a tablet or smartphone to a compatible car with a built-in screen.

Reuters reported that Google’s digital car engine will be the new functionality added to Android M. This gives rise to new questions on Android. And is the iOS vs Android fight about to reach the motor segment as well? Apple is also working on CarPlay for a while, obviously with no less determinations.

Google has already inked contracts with automobiles giants General Motors, Nissan and Hyundai making more manufacturers believe in Android Auto 2. Moreover, Google has to make sure that the booting should be done instantly as users turn the car on. Also we can expect car makers will come with their own Android car interfaces to differentiate their operating systems somehow.

Functionally, Android M will integrate Google services with the car’s sensors, fuel gauge, camera, and internet connection, opening up all sorts of interesting possibilities. The smart service will make driving easier — like providing list of immediate gas stations directions once gas level reaches a certain threshold level.

The resources offered by the car ecosystem might be advantageous for Google’s advertising business. “You can get access to GPS location, where you travel, where you stop, everyday, your speed, your fuel level, where you stop for gas,” one of the sources said.

Last week at the Google I/O 2014 event, the search giant made a big announcement bringing new tech Android Auto into action that brings an whole together new driving experience. Many big automotive and tech giants have joined hands to support this feature thereby creating an Open Automotive Alliance for the same. Korean tech giant LG has also been a part of this and has officially announced its support for the hardware of the tech. this means that by 2015, we could see a wide range of products ranging from car audio systems to navigation units. Android Auto cars are expected to hit the markets next year 2015 and just few days back we saw automotive giant Volvo making announcement of its Android Auto based car that is to arrive in October.

Lets see how things shape out ahead as every one of us would surely be excited to see this tech being brought to cars very soon. Other car manufacturers like Audi and many more has also openly declared their support for the tech.

However, many big car manufacturer’s are popping their eyes out on this beautifully car-embedded tech and have officially announced their support for the project and the Open Automotive Alliance is an example of this. Earlier automotive giant Audi has announced the support for Android Auto and now Volvo has went out announcing it officially with its first car, XC90, featuring Android Auto. The car could be shown off in October and will officially make its way to the markets by 2015.

Android Auto enables a voice based assistance getting you with almost any information at the “drop of hat”. This is similar to the voice based Google Now. With such a useful features and stunning technology many automobile manufacturer’s are expected to bring this feature in their vehicles making navigation much more easy and convenient. Google just unveiled Android Auto-its in-car interface service at Google I/O 2014. It is developed by the Open Automotive Alliance (comprising of Google itself, Audi AG, General Motors Co., Honda Motor Co., Hyundai Motor Group and NVIDIA Corp.). The idea behind Android Auto is to ensure that users aren’t switching between the mobile and the steering wheel while driving.

Android Auto is the Google’s answer to Apple’s CarPlay which also supports Siri-based contextual voice commands for making calls, sending and receiving messages.Well, note that your car will not run Android OS. Android Auto runs on your smartphone and provides users with a simplified Android user interface directly on the dashboard of their cars. It allows them to access features like navigation, communication, and listening to music.

Android Auto is absolutely voice-enabled utilizing Google’s Voice Search feature. It brings “the right information right when you need it” directly on your car’s dashboard. Users should just tap a button on their steering wheel for enabling Android Auto’s voice search. However, they can also control Google’s auto-centric service by pressing the touchscreen buttons on their dashboards. Speaking of navigation, Android Auto also supports full Google Maps experience, turn-by-turn navigation, and also gives personalized suggestions about possible destinations.

Similar to Google Now,users can also send text messages by tapping a button and verbally interacting with Android Auto. They can also access their Google Play Music playlists and curated music libraries. Google is also bringing some music-streaming apps to Android Auto such as Songza, Pandora,TuneIn, iHeartRadio and others. radio and music streaming apps.

Google has also introduced Android Auto APIs, where app developers can ensure that an app designed for smartphones runs on Android Auto as well. The SDK for Android Auto will be available later this year. Google is now partnering with over 40 car manufacturers including Bentley, Ferrari, Audi, Ford, Nissan, Mazda, Suzuki and others, which will support Android Auto.
