iOS 8.3 beta is out and comes with support for wireless CarPlay

On Monday, tech juggernaut Apple released the beta version of iOS 8.3 which now comes with a support for wireless CarPlay. This is a great part as the current CarPlay works on wire usages and the newly released wireless version would come with either Bluetooth or Wi-Fi connectivity.

The feature can be found listed in the Settings option under General category wherein the wireless CarPlay pairs up with your car. The initialization process starts with a long press of the voice control button in your automobile. Upon complete set-up initially, just starting your car with automatically connect your automobile with the CapPlay enabled handset.

Additional changes are a re-designed emoji keyboard that would scroll through all your options. This new beta version of iOS 8.3 would also help developers to make changes to Apple’s Swift programming language. The update also add the Google’s 2 step  verification for opening of Google related apps like the Google’s iOS calendar app, Gmail and many others.

Apple CarPlay: the next level of in-car infotainment system

Apple has displayed on CarPlay infotainment system for cars at the 2013 Worldwide Developers conference in San Fransisco. For now, it only supports BMW, Ford and Mercedes. To reach for more car models, it will tap on third-party infotainment system suppliers, like Pioneer. Aside from the battle between Google and Apple smartphone, the in-car entertainment system has also undergone a few radical changes in few recent years.

CarPlay is not available on older models; however, the Australian EFTM had no problems installing it on existing Pioneer system into their 2010 Mazda 2 recently. The interface of CarPlay is similar with iOS8. Therefore there is no need for the car users to learn again about the interface.

The most important features of CarPlay is Apple Maps. It is a full in-car navigation system with some other options which can make car navigation easier. It has zoom controls as well as 2 and 3D modes. Another feature is that it can make calls by using your iPhone. The idea is to use “Hands Free” push so that the car owners can look at the road at all times while reading and replying to messages as well as making or receiving calls using voice commands.

Almost any car can be upgraded. The downside of installing this system is that it does not have control of anything apart from in-car entertainment system. For example, in the 2011 Holden Commodore has air-conditioned and other climate controls in the touch-screen system. Removing that would have meant some heating and cooling issues.
