HTC makes a silent launch of its Desire 620G in India

Earlier this month, there was a new as HTC planning to launch its Desire 620G, a 3G version of the HTC Desire 620 in Asian markets. A recent report shows that the HTC Desire 620G has already been launched in India. The only change of the Desire 620G from its original model is that instead of the 64-bit quad-core Snapdragon 410 chipset as seen in the Desire 620, this phone has a octa-core MediaTek MT6592 chipset. Just to your notice, this chipset doesn’t support 4G LTE connectivity but as such with Indian markets in mind, the 4G connectivity is still a yet to arrive story.

The company has not went for an official launch of the device, but has only been spotted on few of Indian online stores and is offered for sale. One of the Indian online retailer SnapDeal is currently offering the device with a price equivalent to $253 USD with shipping in three to five days.

Looking to its specs, the Desire 620G hosts a 5inch display with 720×1280 pixel resolution. The device has dual-SIM capabilities having 1GB of RAM memory and 8GB of internal storage with 32GB of expandable storage via microSD card slot. The camera to its back is 8MP while the front has a 5MP secondary snapper. The device comes with Android 4.4.2 pre-installed topped with the company’s own Sense 6.0 UI. The battery capacity is sufficient to 2100mAh.

Samsung launches the Galaxy Mega 2 in India

Samsung finally launched the much awaited Samsung Galaxy Mega 2 in India. The phablet has already started selling in Malaysia and also listed in Samsung Thailand website.

The phone is now available on Samsung own e-store. Currently, the phablet is available for INR 20, 9000, which equates to $341 or €269.

Samsung Galaxy Mega 2 is currently available in two versions, both black and white, with sufficient stocks to ward off initial demand successfully(as claimed by the store).

Mega 2 offers a big 6 inch touch screen display which supports 720p resolution. The phablet also sports quad-core 1.2Ghz Snapdragon 401 processor coupled with a 1.5GB RAM.

Camera quality is one of the features of the phablet; it features 8MP rear camera and 2.1MP primary camera. Samsung Galaxy Mega 2 also sports Andreno 306 GPU.

The phone OS is Android 4.4 Kitkat which is no surprise for most of us. Though it would have been nice, if it used the latest Android Lollipop.

The phone carries an 8 GB ROM which can further be upgraded to a 64 GB variant through microSD card. The device is powered by a 2800mAh module.

The connectivity of the device is worth noting; it supports WiFI b/G/n/ GLP with Glonass coupled with Bluetooth. The device also supports NFC radios.

Samsung Galaxy Mega 2 also features propriety software such as Story Album, S Health 3.0, Ultra Power Saving Mode, S Voice, S Browser and Group Play.

Samsung Galaxy Mega 2 is targeted at mid-range phablet market and from initial impression it party succeeded in doing so.

Samsung Galaxy Note 4 pre-orders kick-off in India

Samsung is finally landing into the market with their latest phablet the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 this week.

Mahesh Telecom has confirmed through twitter that the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 pre-order window is starting and the device is planned to hit stored on 17^th October in India. The date of release is bit on the other side when compared to what the launch day map for the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 was hinting. According to the launch day map, it should have launched on October 10 in India.

The release date hints to target their arch-rival Apple, which already confirmed their release of iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 across India on the same day, 17^th October.

The launch is accustomed with an amazing event held at NewDelhi on 14^th October 2014.

4G Network: Ericsson Partners with Bharti Airtel

Bharti Airtel and Ericsson on Tuesday announced a deal between them, to offer 4G network technology. The deal is great news for 4G community, as its still in infancy in India.

Chris Houghton, head of Ericsson Region India, said “Airtel has selected Ericsson to be its partner in offering LTE (Long-Term Evolution, also marketed as 4G LTE) in India” at a company-organized event to launch the product solution.

For those unkown to the term LTE, it is a standard for wireless communication for high-speed data for mobile phones and terminals.

Reliance Jio Infocomm, the only company that has not opened their score in the services offered for 4G. In comparison, Aircel and Bharti Airtel have launched 4G services on the 2300 Mhz band (TDD-LTE standard) in few cities.

Collaboration between Aditya Birla Group’s Idea Cellular has given rise to solutions data charging deal with Ericsson’s Evolved IP Network (EIN). EIN delivers subscriber broadband services such as 2G, 3G, 4G, triple-play and Wi-Fi over a unified IP transport.

Three companies Airtel, Jio, Vodafone India and Idea have started their 4G journey and won spectrum in the 1800 MHz band, in auctions held in February. This can be helpful in the implementation of 4G across the country.

Lenovo A328 launched in India at Rs 7,299

Lenovo has launched their new offering A-series phone, Lenovo A328 at Rs 7,299. The phone will be available in two colors: white and black, kicking off the selling from next Wednesday onwards. Lenovo A328 will be available from Lenovo stores as well as from offline retailers.

Currently Lenovo A328 is not listed on Lenovo Store. The phone is listed on Infibeam for Rs 6,979.

The A328 is 4.5 inches (capacitive touch) with FWVGA, with a screen resolution of 854 x 480 pixels. It is powered by well-known Mediatek MT6582M quad core chipset and Mali 400 MP GPU. The combination looks promising for the mid-range market phones. The phone weights about 140 grams with battery and is 11 mm thick.

Like other dual-SIM phones, the A328 comes with 4GB storage and 1 GB RAM. The A328 also supports micro SD of 32 GB max. The A328 sports dual cameras, a 5MP rear and 2 MP on the front. The rear camera comes with LED flash support, whereas both the cameras are fixed focus.

Lenovo A328 launched in India at Rs 7,299

Apple iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus pre-orders to start in India on 7 Oct.

Apple has recently announced that their flagship phones iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 plus pre-orders will start on October 7^th in India, which will eventually followed by the phones hitting stores such as Apple Authorized Re-sellers on October 17^th.

The prices of the iPhone 6 series have not yet disclosed by the company but they said, “Pricing details will be soon made available by Apple’s partners: Ingram Micro, Redington, Rashi Peripherals and Reliance”.

The official announcement on sale came late and this gave many vendors through e-commerce to start selling premium smartphones at prices starting from around Rs. 56,000. On amazon, the iPhone 6 is selling for USD 750, which includes shipping cost in US. This when converted to Indian rupees amounts to just Rs. 46,000.

The iPhone series phone i.e. iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 plus come in three versions: 16 GB, 64 GB and 128 GB. Both the phone features 8 megapixel camera and 1.2 Megapixel front camera. The iPhone family supports 2G, 3G and 4G network.

The major difference between the two phones iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 plus is their screens size. iPhone 6 screen size is 4.7 inch and iPhone 6 plus has 5.5 inch display. The new iPhone 6 family is thinner than their previous generation iPhone 5S with 7.6 mm thickness. iPhone 6 is 6.9mm thick and iPhone 6 Plus is 7.1 mm thick.

Ingram Micro, Rashi Peripherals, Redington and Reliance are partnering with Apple this time for the official release. With release time nearing, pricing information can be published any time soon, which might end up similar to the price of iPhone 5S pricing last year.

Pre-ordering will start from Tuesday onwards but it is not clear how they will proceed the pre-ordering. Though, one thing is highly likely that it is possible only at Apple Authorized re-sellers such as Croma, Imagine, Reliance Digital etc.

Alcatel Onetouch Fire C with Firefox OS launches in India

Entry level Alcatel Onetouch Fire C smartphone has recently been launched in India. The handset is FireFox OS ready and is exclusively available via the online retailer Flipkart. Looks like Flipkart is doing great in holding new phone exclusivity.

Alcatel Onetouch Fire C comes pre-loaded with FireFox OS. It also sports a marketplace, an app store for the platform. 4 regional languages are supported by the phone: Bangla, Hindi, English and Tamil.

The phone is placed third on release rankings next to other two phones Intex Cloud FX and Spice Fire One Mi-FX 1.

The price of the phone seems to target low-range market; it is currently available for Rs. 1,990($32). The price makes the phone the cheapest smartphone leaving behind Intex’s Cloud FX which was launched in August for just Rs. 1,999. The product is listed on Flipkart so that exited people can droll over the page. Flipkart will also let anxious users to sign up for email updates.

The phone specs are good when compared to low-mid range. Alcatel Onetouch Fire C key features include 1 GHz Spreadtrum  6821 CPU, 128 MB of RAM, 256 MB of expendable memory, 1.3 MP camera and 3.5” HVGA (480 x 320 pixels) display.  The phone lacks the front facing camera but fills the void somewhat by providing Dual-Sim feature.  Another drawback is only 2G (EDGE) connectivity is supported by the phone.

Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime is official in India with a wide-angle camera at affordable price

Samsung has officially announced its Galaxy Gran Prime having model number SM-G530H which is the new affordable Android smartphone from the Korean giant. The major USP of the device is its 5MP secondary wide-angle front-facing camera and the company calls it to be the best suited camera to capture group selfies. The primary camera of the device measures 8MP camera with LED flash with a capability of 1080p video recording.

Other specs for the Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime include a 5inch display with 540×960 pixel resolution, a powerful quad-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz, 1GB of RAM memory and 8GB of internal memory with microSD card for expandable memory. The smartphone measures 8.6mm of thickness weighing just 156 grams. The battery capacity of the device is large to 2600mAh for more than a day-long operation.

The Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime would be available in India costing around $250. The release in other countries of the world would be followed later this year.

Sony Xperia Z3 and Sony Xperia Z3 Compact now available in India

The twin brothers Sony Xperia Z3 and Sony Xperia Z3 Compact phones finally arrived in India conferring to the schedule for their release. They are priced at Rs. 51990 and Rs. 44990 respectively. The Two 4G LTE-enabled smartphones from Japanese OPEM arrive with IP65/68-certified which are designed for water and dust resistance.

Z3 Compact features small version with a 4.6-inch touchscreen of HD resolution and when compared to a 5.2-inch display and delivers visuals in full HD. Android OS KitKat is used on both the phones and they share their key features.

Jolla SnailFish OS smartphone now available via Snapdeal

Samsung Tizen to be launched in India by November

Samsung, the South Korean giant is preparing to execute their most ambitious move against Google Android System in November. They are going to introduce Tizen OS in India near Diwali festival. Tizen is Samsung in-house OS to fight against Google’s popular Android OS.

Samsung has already showcased their smartwatch successfully running Samsung’s Tizen OS. Samsung is targeting the market which is already been captured by Google Android and Apple iOS.

The announcement of Tizen smartphones in India was done at the launch of Club Samsung 2.0 service. Director of Media Solution Centre, South West Asia, Tarun Malik confirmed the news to Economic Times about launching Tizen smartphones in India. The report discards early release of Samsung Z .The same team is directly responsible for the promotion of Tizen in India.

The Samsung Z is going to be the first commercially available flagship Tizen phone. The phone features a 4.8-inch HD (720p) Super AMOLED display, similar to Galaxy S3 display. It also features 2.3GHz quad-core processor with 2GB of RAM, 8-megapixel autofocus rear camera with BSI sensor and LED flash, 16 GB inbuilt storage expandable via microSD card (up to 64GB) and 2.1 megapixel front camera. The phone will run on a 2600mAh battery.

Until then, Samsung will launch budget Samsung SM-Z130E or SM-Z130H Tizen-based handsets. But not much is known about the budget phones Samsung is planning to release.

Samsung Tizen phone will boost its contention in market through its Club Samsung 2.0 service, which will serve localized music, TV shows and videos. The Tizen OS will easily connect to other media streaming services such as Airtel Wynk and Vodafone Music Store.

Google brings Newsstand to India and other countries

Google is being sneaky in past few weeks, launching Android One smartphones, giving hint on India being one of the first participants in the free offline YouTube Access and now another Google feature will be available to Indians – The Google Play Newsstand. The Newsstand will also be freely available in Netherlands, Spain and Russia.

Newsstand is a popular Android app developed by Google that features news and content, from all over the world’s best news source into one place. The sources include online website and magazines.

The content will be delivered in two ways: free and paid. Free users will get news from free sources whereas paid users can subscribe to premium websites, magazine or other premium publishers through the app.

Google Play Newsstand is not completely new, it is a combination of popular Google Currents app and subscription based Google Play Magazines. Well, the idea is neat and is gaining popularity in the Android community all over the world.

Initial release hints at providing free content to users and later on giving the option to buy premium content through the app.

The vastness of the app can be guesses by the numbers of partners Google Play Newsstand has made. There is total of 30 Indian publications as per the latest announcement made at the Android one launch event.
