Google Plans To Lay High Speed Submarine Cable In Pacific Ocean

Google has a plan and even the world largest ocean is not a problem.


Recently, Google announced that it is working with five other companies to build an undersea cable system which will run through Pacific Ocean. The cable system said to have the cost of $300 million and it will increase the Internet speed for the Asian users.

Faster, a high speed submarine cable, will join the Japan coastal area from two places with the big West Coast cities that include San Francisco, Seattle, Los Angeles and Portland.


Google+ post from the Google’s senior vice president of technical infrastructure, Urs Hölzle, stated that when the project is completed, the cable will work at 60 terabits per second. If compared with the typical cable modem, this speed is about ten million times faster.


“At Google we want our products to be fast and reliable, and that requires a great network infrastructure, whether it’s for the more than a billion Android users or developers building products on Google Cloud Platform,” Hölzle said. “And sometimes the fastest path requires going through an ocean.”


NEC is the company that will be responsible for laying the cable. This IT and network technology company got the contract and reported that work on Faster will start without delay.


It is expected that the project will be completed in around second quarter of 2016.


Formerly, Google has also used the underwater cable system to increase the internet speed quality. The company has connected Japan and Southeast Asia in 2008.


UNITY, which started in 2010 and connected Japan and U.S., Google also backed this Trans-Pacific cable system. The cable operates on 7.68 terabits per second, as reported by Submarine Cable Networks.

LG"s first Quad HD Phone Gets Released in Japan

LG had plans to put Quad HD (2560 x 1440) screens in their new flagship smartphones. LG’s G3 (Isai FL) is the first phone to get the QHD treatment. The LG G3 (Isai FL) is built by LG specifically for KDDI Japan. The phone has a massive 5.5 inch Quad HD screen which looks really nice with its thin bezel and slim design.

The size of  the device is about 145 x 76 x 10.5mm and it weighs about 160g. In terms of size its almost the same as the G3. Its body is an updated version of the G2′s design. The phone is designed to be dust proof and water proof. It has a rare facing volume rocker along the middle. The phone may have ditched the power button all together in favor of LG’s KnockOn technology. LG KnockOn works by having the user double tap the phone to wake it up.


The  2560 x 1440 pixel display has 4 times more pixels than 720p screen. Its 5.5 inch screen with a pixel density of 538 ppi should be impressive to look at. More phones with a QHD screen are expected to be released by LG soon. Under the hood is a Snapdragon 801 MSM8975AC chipset (quad Krait 400, Adreno 330). This combined with its 13 megapixel camera enables the phone to record 4k video. It also has a 1.3MP front facing camera for voice calls.


The phone has 2GB of RAM and 32GB built-in storage. It supports a microSDXC card slot for cards up to 128GB for memory expansion.

In terms of connectivity the LG G3 (Isai FL) has LTE-Advanced (150Mbps down, 50Mbps up) and supports some regional technologies such as WiMAX 2+, Win High Speed, OneSeg and Fullseg. It also has Bluetooth 4.0, NFC, IR Blaster, and WiFi a / b / g / n /ac. It supports LTE, GSM, and UMTS mobile phone networks.


The phone will be available in three colors Blue, Pink, and White.
