There are a lot of improvements on the next iOS 9 update. One of them is on the battery life. Compared to the current battery life size, after you have installed iOS 9, you will get an extension 3 hours of battery life on your iPad or iPhone. On top of that Apple is reported to turn off the features which use bigger power such as sensors and push notifications so that it can save up some battery.

Some of you might be wondering how Apple does that. Apple make it possible by a known method called processor throttling. It is a process to regulate the rate which the application processing is conducted either statically or dynamically. HTC has also used this method on its flagship smartphone HTC One M9. The device is using Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 chipset which is reported to suffer from overheating. Unfortunately the side effect of it is that the performance was reduced.

However, it seems like it is not the case with Apple. Below is the result from MacRumors when it tested iOS 9 beta through Geekbench 3 for iOS, iPhone 6 plus multi core score fell from 2891 to 1751 when the Low Power Mode action is deactivated whereas the single core performance dropped from 1606 to 1019.

The side effect of losing a little bit of performance seems like not really a good idea. However, with a low battery life, it also makes other features such as the cores or RAM seems to be less significant. However, it seems like Apple manage to keep it balance. iOS 9 final version is expected to release in September.

Improvements on Siri as Reported in WWDC 2015 Aligned with Apple’s Vision of Proactive iOS

Users can expect a number of improvements on the upcoming iOS 9 which is aligned with Apple’s vision to a more proactive iOS. Siri, as one example, will receive a complete user interface redesign and the result will be 40% more accurate than last year with error rate of just 5% which is according to Apple, is the industry best. On top of that, Siri will be 40% faster while handling more than 1 billion requests per week.

Siri will also have capabilities to set your calendar based on your email automatically. For example, if there is incoming email reminding you your dentist appointment is due in a few days time, Siri will add it to your calendar and set a reminder for it automatically. Therefore, when the day come, Siri will alert you and let you know when is the best time to leave the house based on the traffic at that point of time.

iOS 9, on the other hand, will have capabilities to learn your habit and use it to recommend apps which is able to make your day easier according to your context. For example, if you normally read newspaper at around 9am in the morning, it will display a few apps for you around this timing on daily basis or if you like to play music, then as soon as you plug in the earphones, then the smartphone will display your favorite music player on your lock screen so that you can immediately play it.  This is Apple’s definition of proactive vision.

iOS becomes now proactive

Well, this has as such nothing to do with the digital voice assistance – Siri, while it the built in operations for the OS that has gone more pro-active. The software for the iOS 9 has been designed so nicely that it takes into account the number of variables like your location, time and date, the connections available and would like to predict as to which app you want to open at a specific time. For example, as soon as you plug your headphones in, the iOS 9 recommends user the recent playlist they have played. Moreover, if you have any specific appointment coming up, the iOS 9 will work for you and check out the traffic conditions and thus will intimate you priorly accordingly so that you be on time for your scheduled appointment. Moreover, if you receive any call from an unknown number, iOS 9 will search through your mails to help you link the number to your contacts.

Split screen multi-tasking now a reality

Well, the split screen multi-tasking which was in talks since the launch of iOS 8 is now a reality! The Split View allows users to run side-by-side apps instead of switching in between them every time. With this true multi-tasking experience, both the apps will be active simultaneously and the new picture in the picture mode will even let you enjoy videos along with other apps. The Slide Over feature allows users to launch the second app without closing the first one.

However the sad news is that, the Split View feature is available only for Apple iPad Air 2 while the Slide Over and picture in picture functionality will be available iPad Air, iPad Air 2, iPad mini 2, iPad mini 3.

Apple Maps improvements

The company’s own mapping system Apple Maps now comes with Transit View. Like the Google Maps, it too includes directions for public transport like subways, trains, busses and ferries. The Transit View feature is available in different cities of Baltimore, Berlin, Chicago, London, Mexico City, New York, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Toronto, and Washington, DC. Moreover, the feature will also be available through 300 cities of China.

The apps in iOS 9 are said to be working with Metal, meaning it offers the lowest-overhead access to GPU for better, smooth and responsive graphics. This results into faster performance and the battery consumption has also been nicely optimized which adds up an additional hour of usage to your devices. THE LOW POWER MODE can offer three extra hours of battery life to your device.

Well, the traditional Note taking app has received an excellent upgrade wherein the new Note application includes easily generating to-do checklist, text-formatting and even the ability to draw sketches in your note application. Moreover, user can even access the camera to make any kind of visual notes. Other apps, Safari and Maps can also be imported to Notes directly. So the once looking very simple app now has got multiple-excellent features to it.

The iOS 9 upgrade brings the new Apple News app that with keep the user updated with the latest headlines. Cupertino giant Apple is expected to make some very major announcements next week at the WWDC 2015 and now everyone is on the edge of the seats thinking what new Apple has to bring to its upcoming OS – iOS 9. Rumor Roundup: Apple iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus features, specs, price and release date

Only a few months have passed since Apple unveiled its larger phones iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus in September 2014 but rumors about Apple’s next generation iPhones which the Cupertino giant will be releasing in 2015 have already begun. Here is a roundup of all the rumors circulating about the successor to iPhone 6 and 6 plus which are being dubbed as iPhone 6s and 6s plus respectively.

More powerful 12MP camera perhaps with 4K video capabilities

Since iPhone 4s released in 2011, all Apple iphones have featured an 8MP camera with only small variations in the size of the sensor. While rivals Sony and HTC shifted to 20MP and 16MP primary cameras, Apple has stuck to 8MP so far. But according to rumors, the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus cameras are set to get a bump to 12MP in 2015 and may also feature 4K video recording. Other rumors indicate improvements in camera like dual lens camera with optical zoom feature or a mirror and lens camera system for better image quality.

Force Touch

Apple introduced the Force Touch feature in Apple Watch. This feature enables the device to distinguish between a slight tap and a forceful touch on the display. It is rumored that the new iPhone 6s and 6s Plus will have the Force Touch feature but it is difficult to say how this feature will work on them.

Apple A9 Chip

Apple had introduced the powerful 64-bit A8 processor in iPhone 6. The new iPhone 6s is expected to get the next gen Apple A9 processor. The 20nm A8 chip was manufactured by TSMC but Apple will probably get the 14nm A9 chip manufactured by Samsung.

Apple will also shift from planar design for transistors to FinFET which does not have power leakage issues like the planar architecture.

 2GB RAM

It is believed that the upcoming iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus will sport a 2GB RAM instead of 1GB RAM used in iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. The extra memory will provide better multi-tasking features to iOS 9.

Facial Recognition

Apple has been granted a new patent for capturing image of user’s face with the front-facing camera and using it to unlock the device. This facial recognition feature may be used in the new iPhones 6s and 6s Plus.

Improvements in Touch ID

Currently, the Touch ID fingerprint sensor is incorporated beneath the Home button. A new patent filed by Apple indicates that the company has developed technology for incorporating Touch ID sensor into the display screen. One or more fingerprints of the user are detected by the sensor for setting and verifying user’s ID.

Sturdier design, Rose Gold finish

Although the overall external design is expected to be similar to iPhone 6, after the ‘#bendgate’ episode, Apple will surely make its successor sturdier so that it won’t bend to pressure like the iPhone 6. So instead of using 6000-series aluminum for its body, the company might use stronger 7000-series aluminum alloy for its 2015 iPhones.

Rumors say that Apple will be adding a fourth color to its range. Now, apart from Gold, Silver and Space Grey, there will be an iPhone in Rose Gold finish too.

Apple SIM, Battery Life

The upcoming iPhone 6s and 6s Plus may offer Apple SIM which   features in the new iPads. Apple SIM allows the user to select plans with carrier of their choice without changing the SIM.

The next gen iPhones may also feature wireless inductive charging like the Apple Watch. They may also support new reversible USB charger.

iOS 9 Operating System

It is almost certain that the 2015 iPhones will run Apple’s new iOS 9. Apple is known to release a new version of iOS every year. This year too, it is expected to introduce iOS 9 at the WWDC 2015 to be held in June. Apple may also re-introduce the Beats music subscription service.

Price and release date

Looking to Apple’s release date history, the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus will most likely launch in September 2015. Their predecessors iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus were launched in September 2014.

Their price tags are also expected to remain unchanged with iPhone 6s to cost $200 and iPhone 6s Plus to be priced at $300 for a 2-year contract.

Apple plans to launch public betas for iOS 8.3 and iOS 9 to fix bugs prior to their release

Last year, Apple had successfully launched the public beta for OS X Yosemite and based on this success, Apple plans to release public betas for the upcoming versions of its iOS operating system. Multiple sources say that the Cupertino company wants to get rid of bugs before the iOS 8.3 and iOS 9 versions are launched for the public.

This would be the first ever public beta release for the iOS because prior to this, Apple’s iOS beta versions were released only to registered developers and the general public never had access to any of the iOS beta builds. Some did manage to sell beta versions downloaded from developer accounts but their success was limited. Greg Joswiak, VP of iPhone & iOS marketing at Apple had earlier expressed concern about this unauthorized business saying that the company would fight it in future.

Apple’s iOS 8 faced several bugs and stability issues and the company has received much flak for it. This may be the reason why Apple wants to release public beta versions of iOS 8.3 and 9 so that most of the issues could be resolved before their official release. However, sources say that the public beta program would be limited to only 100,000 people in order to maintain some level of exclusivity. Apple has begun to rope in retail employees for this.

iOS 8.3 is codenamed Stowe and it was released to developers in the beginning of this month with some enhancements for Emoji keyboard, Siri, wireless CarPlay support and simpler Google services login. Second beta for it will probably be released next week. Public beta for iOS 8.3 (which will be 3rd for developers) will be out in mid-March.

iOS 9 is codenamed Monarch will supposedly focus more on bug fixes, stability and optimization and will officially debut at Apple’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference in June. Its public beta will be released in summer and it will be finally launched in the fall.

Apple’s iOS 9 to focus more on stability and optimization rather than new features

Last month we heard that Apple was already testing its next operating system iOS 9. Later, iOS 9 was spotted running on iPhone 6 in the Rightware benchmark database and it was speculated that Apple’s new operating system would be ready for release by June when the Cupertino giant holds its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June.

Now a report by 9to5Mac suggests that Apple is directing its focus on enhancing the stability and performance of the iOS 9. Although stability is always expected in the software of such a big company as Apple, the rapid release of operating systems one after the other have somewhat compromised their overall stability and performance, resulting in several complaints from customers.

Apple has released a new version of its operating system every year since 2007. In 2013, the company made some major changes in user interface and introduced certain new features like Control Center and Touch ID. Next year in iOS 8 the company streamlined the user interface and introduced new features Apple Pay and Health. Also included in it was some groundwork for Apple Watch. Some users felt that the iOS was losing its smooth and fluid touch as the performance of their devices had slowed down.

In view of these complaints, Apple wants to include several improvements to iOS 9 codenamed Monarch. According to sources, the Apple team is focusing greatly on ‘under-the-hood’ improvements like fixing of bugs, boosting performance and imparting stability to the new operating system instead of simply focusing on adding new features. The company is also keen to keep the OS and updates’ size at a manageable level which would especially be helpful to users with low 16GB storage devices.

Apple has sold record 74.5 million iPhone handsets in the last December quarter taking it at par with Samsung. The company predicts that there will be over 600 million iPhone users worldwide in three years’ time. If this is to happen, Apple is doing the right thing in putting out all efforts in stabilizing and optimizing the new iOS 9. Of course, it will have new features such as public transit as well as outdoor and indoor mapping.

According to 9to5Mac, it is still not clear whether Apple will be limiting the iOS 9 release to recent devices that run on 64-bit processors i.e. from Apple A7 onward. If such is the case, development of iOS for Apple and 3rd-party developers would become easy.

Apple’s iOS 9 running on iPhone 6 gets benchmarked

As we know, Apple’s new mobile operating system iOS 9 is coming soon. Google Analytics found Apple already testing this new version. Now the iOS 9 has popped up in the Rightware benchmark database showing iPhone 6 running it.

So it seems that Apple’s upcoming iOS 9 is being tested in its latest iphone. Apple’s CEO Tim Cook has already gone on record saying that the company will try to release a new version of iOS and Mac OS every year. The Google Analytics findings and the Rightware benchmark database indicate that Apple is moving in that direction and will probably be ready with a developer preview by June when the company holds its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC).

While it is still not clear what changes iOS 9 is going to incorporate, we can get an idea about it if we check the benchmark results. The Basemark OS II test results are available for iPhone 6 running iOS 8 and iPhone 6 running iOS 9. If we compare both the test results, we can see that there is only little difference between the two.

However, it is very likely that the iOS 9 version tested here is just a preliminary build that is being tried out and the actual final product will be much different with some major enhancements over the earlier version.

Apple iOS 9 is Coming Soon!

Apple has launched iOS 8 last year which comes with a lot of useful new features for iOS devices such as iPhone or iPad. Among the new features are the third-party keyboards, custom sharing and action options, enhanced Spotlight, Extensibility which allow for interactive notifications, Family Sharing as well as Continuity. On top of that, iOS 8 also comes with updates to Messages and Photos for example, custom photo filters and effects, improved Mail and Safari as well as Health app.

This year, it seems like Apple is ready to test the new operating system iOS 9 as per Google Analytics from the below screenshot. It is expected to be introduced for the first time in June this year during the annual conference WWDC 2015. Apparently, Apple not only tests internally but also externally by its developers.

This is aligned to Tim Cook’s statement which mentioned that Apple will try to release a major version of iOS and Mac OS each year.  Unfortunately, there is no further detail on what other new features which going to be implemented for iOS 9. Hopefully there are some leaks or preview prior to the launching.
