Apple releases three new Apple Watch Ads ‘Rise’, ‘Up’ and ‘Us’ highlighting its usefulness

Apple has released three new Apple Watch ads on its YouTube channel just prior to its official worldwide launch. The new ads titled ‘Rise’, ‘Up’ and ‘Us’ focus on three important uses of the device: Time, Health & Fitness and Communication. These are the three aspects which Apple CEO Tim Cook highlighted while introducing the Apple Watch.

Many feel that there is really no need for a smartwatch, that it is more of a style statement. The entry of Apple Watch has surely generated some excitement in the smartwatch market and Apple is highlighting its functions through ads so that people get interested and convinced to buy one.

The first ad “Rise” shows people using their Apple Watch for their morning activities, to wake up, see & answer incoming messages and use it when they commute.

The second ad “Up” shows people using the health and fitness features of the watch for working out and other activities like setting up fitness goals or using it while exercising etc. It also highlights the “stand” notification which alerts users with “Time to Stand” when they are working or commuting.

The final ad “Us” focuses on the Apple Watch’s communication features such as draw pictures, send animated emojis, heart beats or taps to the wrists of others wearing the Apple Watch.

At the end, all the three ads declare “The Watch is here”. Apple’s earlier marketing campaign focused on showing Apple Watch on the wrists of celebrities, models and athletes but now it appears that Apple is showing the device being used by common man.

Student’s iPhone 6 Confiscated by Principal at School

A principal in Northeast High School, Philadelphia has confiscated iPhone 6 belonging to her student due to disciplinary reasons.  However, as the dad demanded her to return the phone to him, she refused to do so as it against the school’s policy. She offered him to take her flip phone instead in case if he needs to contact the student for emergency.

Raven Hill, a spokeswoman from School of District of Philadelphia said that according to the student handbook of Northeast High School which is given to every student at the beginning of the school year, all confiscated cell phones, cameras, electronic and other telephonic devices will be returned at the end of each academic quarter with no exceptions. By the time the incident happens, the marking period is in two weeks.

The dad filmed the whole incident of him demanding to get his daughter’s iphone 6 back from the principal and uploaded it to YouTube. The video was seen by almost 180,000 people who might increase as time goes by.

Hill added that it is against the law to record a person without his or her consent. On the footage it seems that the principal identifies itself to the camera. Hill said that was not the case.  The principal identified herself to the parent and she was not aware that she was being filmed. A police report has been filed.

This aroused some public comments. One commented why the principal and parents could not come to a happy agreement while some commented why a schoolkid needs an iPhone 6.

Sony releases a video showing how to unlock bootloader on Xperia phones

Many of the smartphone users do not know what a bootloader is or what it does but software developers know what magic it holds. By unlocking the bootloader of your device, you can root it and flash custom ROMs on it. Some manufacturers and carriers do not allow unlocking of the bootloader, while some like Sony are developer-friendly and allow it.

Earlier, when Sony was Sony Ericsson, it used to lock the bootloaders of their devices but now they want to encourage developers and make it easy to unlock them. Sony has recently uploaded a YouTube video on its developers channel that shows how to unlock the bootloader of your Xperia device and make it custom ROM-ready.

In the video, the process of unlocking the bootloader is shown on an Xperia Z2 phone and it is demonstrated on a Windows computer. The process is not simple for novices and Sony warns that it is not recommended and it may void the original warranty of the device and/or any warranty provided by the carrier. Also, if you get it wrong, the custom ROM may not work properly and some of the pre-loaded functions may fail to work. As such, you may brick your phone.

Unlocking the bootloader involves multiple steps that include getting the unlocking code from Sony, checking if device is unlockable, find your IMEI, IDID or the MEID number, installing the Android SDK from Google, installing Fastboot driver, running it and unlocking the bootloader.

Here’s the video:
