OnePlus Two may be announced in Q1 or Q2 of 2015

The Chinese company OnePlus entered the smartphone arena this year with its first smartphone OnePlus One going official this April with the tag line “Never Settle”. The phone offers some great features at very low prices, making it a most sought-after phone but is very hard-to-get. Now it looks like its successor the OnePlus Two is already in the works.

OnePlus One has been launched in India on 2nd of this month and the company has officially confirmed that its successor OnePlus Two will be launched before September of 2015. As OnePlus Global’s director Carl Pei told BGR India:

“We are planning to announce the OnePlus Two in Q2 or Q3 next year. So it is one year after this phone [OnePlus One].”

When he was asked if the company plans to launch the new flagship in India, Carl said:

“India will be one of the first countries we will launch the OnePlus Two in.”

Already many rumors about the upcoming OnePlus Two smartphone are floating around. One such rumor says it would have a smaller display but be a bit more pricy than the OnePlus One, but still cheaper than other similar Android phones.

No concrete details about its specs are available as yet but a source has told Business Insider that OnePlus Two would “probably be more customizable” and have “some surprises in store” with respect to its hardware.

OnePlus One is powered by CyanogenMod 11S but Cyanogen has now tied up with Micromax to exclusively supply software to its “Yu” brand of devices. However, OnePlus has assured its customers that it has assembled its own software team to develop something on its own as soon as possible.

Here are some pics of OnePlus One:

Merger of PC and Mobile Chips into One Unit is Intel’s Plan

Media reports

Not long ago, it was being discussed in the media that the mobile chip division of Intel was worried about their total loss of $7 billion during the last two years. In the mid of November, a report was published about Intel’s new plan. Intel plans to merge the mobile chip business with the PC chip business. The PC chip business is stronger and a lot more stable than mobile chip business.

Intel
Intel explains why

The spokesman of Intel Chuck Mulloy gave a statement about why his company is planning to do all this. According to him, the devices like tablets, phablets, phones and PCs are gradually entering into each other’s category. The idea of merging the mobile chips with PC chips is to get the new system implemented faster and make it more efficient. This will increase the overall pace of the company’s work.
Course of action

The head of the Intel’s PC chips division is Kirk Skaugen, and he is the one who will be running the combined unit. Hermann Eul is the head of the mobile chips, and he will be deeply involved in this transitional work that is expected to complete by March 2015. Once this job is done, Eul will be assigned to a new job.
Advantages

This year, it is expected that Intel is going to ship almost 40 million processors to manufacturers for tablets. However, the company is facing a big budget shortfall due to the subsidies that is being paid to the manufacturers for using its chips. As a consequence of combining the PC and mobile chip businesses, Intel is going to stop to paying subsidies to manufacturers.

Prototype of possible Lumia 1020 successor, Microsoft McLaren makes an appearance

Even as everyone is waiting for the next Lumia flagship from Microsoft, a new Nokia prototype device has popped up on a Chinese auction site Taobao. The phone listed on the site is Nokia RM-1052 and by the looks of it, seems to be a Lumia 1020 successor.

As you can see in the image below, the words “Prototype Property of Microsoft-Mobile” and “Not for Sale” are clearly printed on the back of the device.

As per the information seen on the screen, details of the prototype Nokia RM-1052 are:

  • Nokia Model: RM-1052_1000

  • OS: 8.10.14090.0

  • Firmware: 03024.00000.14195.26..

  • Hardware Version: 0.1.0.3

  • CPU Core: 4

  • RAM: 1.9GB

  • Storage space available: 26.3GB

We see that the phone has an aluminum body and a display of about 5-inch with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, a quad-core CPU, 2GB of RAM and 32GB internal storage, and it runs Windows Phone 8.1. Its camera bump is similar to that of Lumia 1020. So the Nokia RM-1052 may have a 41MP camera just like the Lumia 1020.

There is a speculation that this prototype might be that of Microsoft’s flagship “McLaren” handset that was supposed to use the contactless zoom in/out 3D Touch technology to control the device with gestures, without touching the screen. However, Microsoft later cancelled the plans to release McLaren. There is also a possibility that this is just some other Windows Phone prototype.

World’s thinnest Smartphone, the 4.75mm Vivo X5 Max officially launching on December 10

Vivo has announced that it will officially unveil its uber thin 4.75mm Vivo X5 Max smartphone on December 10. The company had posted teaser images of the smartphone on its Weibo page last month and a few days later, we saw it passing through TENNA.

After launch, the Vivo X5 Max will become the world’s thinnest smartphone and will displace the current thinnest phone Oppo R5 from the top position. Oppo R5 is 4.85mm thick but lacks many features that are common to smartphones because of its slimness, such as the 3.5mm headphone jack.

Vivo X5 Max-Feature

However, it seems that Vivo has taken care of this problem. Even though the Vivo X5 Max is only 4.75mm thick, it sports a headphone jack as well as a dual SIM tray. You will be able to use either two SIM cards or a SIM card and a microSD card in the tray. The handset will supposedly offer significantly upgraded Hi-Fi sound quality.

Vivo X5 Max-1

Specs for the new Vivo X5 Max include a 5.5-inch LCD display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, 1.7GHz MediaTek 64 bit octa-core processor, 2 GB RAM, 13MP primary camera and 5MP front-facing camera. The handset will have LTE connectivity and run Android 4.4.4 KitKat. Its dimensions are 153.9 x 78 x 4.75mm and weighs 146 grams.

The Vivo X5 Max will debut in China first, probably followed by other markets later.
