Riff is the Latest Facebook App Allows Users to Make Videos Together

Facebook is all about connecting with people in a fun way. It seems like Facebook employees are busy working on a side project – Riff. Riff is similar to Vine, one of the most popular mobile apps which focus on video creation. However, with one big difference which is Riff does not limit of the video length like Vine does. Vine has a minimum 6-sec video length.

How does Riff work?

It starts by somebody creating a video and give a topic into that video. In this case, #AprilFool. Therefore, your friends will then able to add in their own version into that video and share it to their friends’ friends. Your friend’s friends will then able to add in their own version to the same video and share it to their friends too. And the list goes on and on. The video result from a group of friends will then able to be shared to the Facebook or anywhere in the internet at any convenient timing.

Here is an example of a video which is created for Riff so that you can get a hang of what Riff does.

Sony Xperia Cosmos may be launched as Xperia C4

A couple of images of the unannounced selfie-centric Sony Xperia Cosmos had been leaked earlier this month on Twitter by the famed leakster @upleaks. At the time, it was assumed to be the successor to Sony Xperia C3 because of its large selfie camera in the front with LED flash.

Sony Xperia C3 ‘PROselfie’ phone released last year is the first and only Sony smartphone to have a front-facing 5MP camera with LED flash. It looks like the assumption was correct. @upleaks has now posted in its twitter account that Sony Xperia Cosmos will be launched in the market as Sony Xperia C4.

Not much is known about this new Xperia Cosmos/ Xperia C4 phone except that it will be powered by a MediaTek processor and will run Android 5.0 lollipop out of the box topped  with Sony’s lightweight custom UI. As mentioned earlier, it is a selfie-centric phone with a big front- facing camera having LED flash. However, it is not known if it will be a 5MP snapper like its predecessor, the Xperia C3, or a more powerful one.

The Xperia C4 will also probably be a mid-range device like the C3 and may have 4G LTE support. Sony hasn’t disclosed any information about the device but as the Xperia C3 was launched in July last year, the new Xperia C4 may also be unveiled this year somewhere around that time.

We will let you know as soon as we hear anything new. Stay with us.

New Sony smartphone that could be the Xperia Z4 has cleared FCC

Amidst the numerous rumors and leaks in the run up to the Sony Xperia Z4 release date, we have yet another report that takes it a step nearer. Sony’s upcoming flagship has reportedly cleared the big hurdle needed for it to launch commercially. Yes, we are talking about its alleged FCC clearance here.

Looks like the US FCC might have just approved the Sony Xperia Z4. A new Sony smartphone bearing the model number PM-0780 has recently passed the rigorous FCC testing procedures and it appears to be the upcoming Xperia Z4.

Details about the handset in the FCC documents indicate that it has a non-removable battery and provides broad-range LTE support. The Sony model PM-0780 also has a microSD card slot which is in line with rumors that suggest Sony is going to keep the microSD slot in its flagship. Several other smartphone manufacturers are said to be dropping this feature from their flagship devices.

Six variants of the device have been listed in the FCC documents and all of them have similar hardware. There are only some minor changes in configuration of their cellular radios, probably to be compatible with different networks of various carriers and/or different networks in different markets.

The smartphone’s dimensions listed in the FCC report are73 x 146 mm or 2.87 x 5.75 inches which are pretty much identical to those of the Xperia Z3. Moreover, the width and height match with the rumored dimensions of the Xperia Z4.

Additionally, the device that passed through the FCC has been listed as running Android OS build number 26.1.A.0.79. Although the FCC data does not confirm that the model number PM-0780 is indeed the Xperia Z4, the details revealed about the handset make it a strong possibility.

Huawei Emphasizes the Need to Address 5G for Future

Need of 5G

Ken Hu, Deputy Chairman and acting CEO of Huawei Technologies, has recently said that today people are at the beginning of the beginning when it comes to the need of 5G. The question arises why this issue needs to be addressed now. There are many ambitious technologists that claim 5G is going to be commercially available to general public by the year 2020. The problem is that there is no standard defined for 5G yet.5G

A paper with the title “5G – The road to a Super-Connected World” was recently published. In this paper, Mr Hu said that more than half of the world is currently relying on 2G. He further said that 4G is still in the initial phase, and this is the right time to get work started for 5G. It is not just one of those IoT (Internet of Things) we hear from time to time. This matter involves many practicalities that almost all users can understand.

Factors for 5G

Important factors like connectivity, bandwidth and latency sum it up. It is a reality that IoT will change our lives; in the future, all things including toothbrushes and air conditioners will be connected to the web. More devices like “wearables for objects” are going to be a part of our lives, and networks will need to have more capacity for them. In the coming times, latency is going to make a big difference for many people.

Requirements

According to Mr. Hu, the site of a 5G cell will have so many connections that the number will go into millions. This means our future world would be a place with more than 100 billion connected devices. Latency with not more than 1 millisecond—50 times faster than today—and a throughput of 10Gbps will be needed for machines like self-driving cars or automated transportation application. Anything less than this will not be sufficient.

Mr. Hu’s suggestion

Now the question is how the industry can define the standard while unknown future problems of consumers and businesses are unsolved. Mr. Hu suggested that telecom sector must engage other business sectors for defining the standard because 5G development should be a joint effort. He also said there are 3 different defined standards for “internet of vehicles” which means too many standards and no clear standard.

Challenges

The demand for bandwidth will increase at least 500% as we move to 5G. This is because of more than 100 billion devices connected through web and everything that saves data. Mr. Hu’s predictions about 5G is not much different from predictions made by other experts. This idea for a joint effort is great; otherwise, both consumers and industry will face a messed up situation of varying standards and different methods. At the moment, there are half dozen standards in the industry. There is a tough competition between LTE and WiMAX, GSM and CDMA and Wi-Fi and HomeRF. To avoid patent licensing, different variants can be seen in Asia. If a standard for 5G is developed, it would also mean slowdown in the innovation of some products.

Advantages

A great way to separate flash in the pan from the real deal is to have an open market competition. In the case of 5G, a joint effort would be a much better choice. Designers will be able to come up with more ideas if they do not have to deal with too many specifications that are presently a vital part of the market. This achievement can turn out to be a key factor in the wave of mobile revolution.

Alleged rear cover for the iPhone 6c pictured

We just went around the latest rumor about the Cupertino tech giant Apple planning to come with three different iPhone variants ahead this year. This included a 4-inch iPhone 6c in addition to the iPhone 6s and the iPhone 6s Plus. This means that Apple is all set to come back to its original 4inch handsets along with some newly loaded features of NFC, Gorilla Glass, TouchID sensor while it would trade-off for a cost effective plastic back in place of the metal build.

Talking about its back cover, recently a new picture from the mobile parts reseller Future Supplier has arrived which is allegedly said to be the back cover for the iPhone 6c. the shell in the images below is for a 5inch iPhone 5 and looks pretty much identical to the iPhone 5c. However, if observed more closely a subtle difference can be spotted wherein the camera cut-out for the iPhone 6 is of oval shape while that for the iPhone 5c is round. Additionally the back cover for the iPhone 6c has also get two sets of speaker holes to its bottom. At the same spot, the iPhone 5c has got only one hole.

This means that there are really some visible changes in the design pattern of the alleged iPhone 6c cover than the existing iPhone 5c. this could possibly be the next 4-inch iPhone that we are talking about.
