New Sony smartphone that could be the Xperia Z4 has cleared FCC

Amidst the numerous rumors and leaks in the run up to the Sony Xperia Z4 release date, we have yet another report that takes it a step nearer. Sony’s upcoming flagship has reportedly cleared the big hurdle needed for it to launch commercially. Yes, we are talking about its alleged FCC clearance here.

Looks like the US FCC might have just approved the Sony Xperia Z4. A new Sony smartphone bearing the model number PM-0780 has recently passed the rigorous FCC testing procedures and it appears to be the upcoming Xperia Z4.

Details about the handset in the FCC documents indicate that it has a non-removable battery and provides broad-range LTE support. The Sony model PM-0780 also has a microSD card slot which is in line with rumors that suggest Sony is going to keep the microSD slot in its flagship. Several other smartphone manufacturers are said to be dropping this feature from their flagship devices.

Six variants of the device have been listed in the FCC documents and all of them have similar hardware. There are only some minor changes in configuration of their cellular radios, probably to be compatible with different networks of various carriers and/or different networks in different markets.

The smartphone’s dimensions listed in the FCC report are73 x 146 mm or 2.87 x 5.75 inches which are pretty much identical to those of the Xperia Z3. Moreover, the width and height match with the rumored dimensions of the Xperia Z4.

Additionally, the device that passed through the FCC has been listed as running Android OS build number 26.1.A.0.79. Although the FCC data does not confirm that the model number PM-0780 is indeed the Xperia Z4, the details revealed about the handset make it a strong possibility.

Microsoft Lumia 435 an entry level handset visits FCC: Specs and images

A new Lumia branded entry level handset seems to be on the cards. Quoted as the Microsoft Lumia 435, the device has recently appeared at the FCC and also being certified in Indonesia. The device has a few variants that include RM-1070, RM1071, RM1034 and RM1068 and RM-1032, the latter two being supposed as the dual SIM variants.

This smartphone is supposed to have a 4inch screen having a resolution of 480×480 with a pixel density of 235ppi. At its heart, it would be running the Snapdragon 200 CPU and its back would be hosting a 5MP primary camera. This visit at the FCC shows that the handset would be powered with a BV-5J battery exclusive for the model. Last month, the Indian import-export site reported a shipment of ten BV-5J cells along with ten dual SIM smartphones each valued at $57. This means that there is quite a bit of possibility that the handset might have been tested in India itself.

Samsung Galaxy Core Prime Model SM-G360P gets FCC certified

Although Samsung plans to reduce the number of its smartphone models, there are still a few in the pipeline. After announcing the Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime a couple of months back, we had another selfie-centric phone, the Galaxy Core Prime passing through TENNA last month. It was also listed for pre-order by Indian online retailer Flipkart.

We now have the Galaxy Core Prime getting FCC certification in the US. This is an entry-level CDMA smartphone with model no. SM-G360P, headed to US carriers. The FCC label of the handset carries the customer service no. of Boost Mobile indicating that the device will probably be launched by this operator. However, the Galaxy Core Prime model SM-G360P may well be heading to Sprint as the handset supports LTE bands 25, 26 and 41 which are compatible with the Sprint network.

The specs of model SM-G360P passing through FCC are somewhat different from the specs of Galaxy Core Prime leaked via Flipkart earlier, so this may be a variant of that phone. This model has a 4.5” LCD display with a resolution of 480 x 800, 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor with 32-bit and 64-bit support, 1GB RAM, 8GB internal expandable memory, a 5MP rear camera, a 2MP front-facing camera and a 2,000mAh battery. The handset runs Android 4.4.4 KitKat coupled with Samsung’s own TouchWiz.

The new Samsung Galaxy Core Prime could be a good buy in the affordable segment. Indian variant of the device is priced at about $140 but its pricing in the US is not known. Since the handset has been certified by FCC, its official announcement is expected soon.

Upcoming HTC Nexus 9 has just passed through FCC

It’s just a matter of couple of weeks when we get to hear the first official word from Google regarding its upcoming tablet Nexus 9 made by HTC probably along with its much rumored and much awaited flagship Nexus 6. But we all know that it’s a tradition in the tech industry that before a device goes official, it has to pass through FCC. Well, the Nexus 9 has now passed through process and we are still waiting for the Nexus 6 to get its approval from FCC.

However, the FCC listing does not give us a strong indication that this is Nexus 9, but it does state that it is an HTC tablet and as per the current status, HTC is certainly not working indigenously for a tablet of its own! This probably means that it would be non-other, but Nexus 9. FCC has also shed out some information on the specs of the device that shows it to be having a 8.9inch display with 2560×1440 pixel resolution, a 64-bit Tegra K1 SoC chipset, 3GB of RAM, 16MP of camera and the Google’s recently announced Android L on-board.  The connectivity options for the device include NFC, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi 802.11ac.

Earlier rumrs quote the tablet to be arriving sometime in mid-October but recent rumors have claimed to be arriving as soon as this Wednesday i.e. October 8. It might happen that Google might announce the tablet on 8th and later release it after a weeks time.
