The Relatively Expensive HP Stream is All Set to Take on Chromebooks

HP stream

HP’s Plan

Not long ago, HP disclosed its plan to launch a very low cost 14-inch laptop to counter the Google’s Chromebooks. Finally, HP is launching its Windows-powered HP Stream now.

Earlier it was claimed that HP Stream is going to cost less than $200, but that did not turn out to be true. The actual price of this new laptop is $300 which is $100 more than people were expecting. However, it is still not an expensive laptop but also not very cheap.

Launching

From September 24, HP stream will be available in the market. It is powered by an AMD AR Micro-6400T Quad processor, and it has a 14-inch 1,366 x 768 screen. The processor has a fanless design, and it is called APU (Accelerated Processing Unit). It is being used to compete with dual-core Celerons of Intel that are used in different Chromebooks as well as some of HP’s 14 inch laptops.

Storage space

HP Stream has a storage space of 32GB and a RAM of 2GB. The storage space can be further increased by microSD cards. Each customer will get OneDrive storage of 100GB for two years from Microsoft. This is a perfect way to surpass the Google’s strategy to offer Google Drive space to Chromebook buyers. For six months, the HP Stream owners will get a free Dropbox storage of 25GB. The customers will also get a one month free trial of Microsoft Office 365.

Features

HP Stream laptop will have Bluetooth, 802.11n Wi-Fi, HDMI out, one combo jack for audio, two USB 2.0 ports and one USB 3.0 port. HP claims that the battery of this device will last for six and a half hours as it is a 32WHr 3-cell unit. The weight of HP stream is 1.72 kg (3.8lbs), and its thick is 1.77cm (0.70inches).

Merits and demerits

The greatest quality of this laptop is that it will run Windows 8.1, but it could also be its biggest weakness. It is the greatest quality because one will not see a fully preinstalled Windows on such a cheap laptop. It could be the biggest weakness because a lightweight laptop like this one might not be able to handle Windows 8.1. One of the greatest things about Chromebooks that attract customers is their Chrome OS which requires very less resources to perform well. If Microsoft and HP somehow manage to ensure smooth performance of HP stream then it can really beat the Chromebook, but time will decide that.

Back Panel images of the new Motorola Droid Turbo and Moto S leaked

There have been rumors that Motorola is getting ready to launch a new powerful handset for Verizon Wireless and its USP will be its quick-charging battery. The device will be called Motorola Droid Turbo and is supposed to be launched next month.

We have now got the first leaked picture of the device. HelloMotoHK has posted images of the backside of a Moto handset on its Facebook page which is supposedly the Droid Turbo. The handset has Motorola’s typical woven surface with the camera on the upper side and dual LED flash one on each side of the camera. At the bottom is the Droid logo with the Verizon logo just above it. Verizon wireless has been the exclusive supplier of Motorola’s Droid phones in the US.

Motorola Droid Turbo-1

Rumored specs of the Droid Turbo are quite impressive and include a 5.2 inch display with 2560 x 1440 resolution, quad-core 2.7GHz Snapdragon 805 processor, 3GB RAM, 32GB internal storage, a 20MP rear camera and a 2MP front-facing one. The device is expected to have front-facing speakers and will offer fast battery charging. The leak also suggests that the new Droid Turbo will resemble Motorola’s Moto X rather than the previous Motorola Droid handset.

Motorola Droid Turbo-2

There is another leaked image that shows the back panel supposedly that of Motorola’s Moto S. Looks like it will be a phablet because it seems much bigger compared to the 5.2-inch Moto X Gen 2 beside it, but the design of the back panel looks similar in both the phones. This Moto S could be the big 5.9-inch“Shamu” smartphone that Motorola was supposed to be working on for Google as its Nexus 6.

Motorola Moto S

Of course the two smartphones might be entirely different but if this is the Moto S, it can’t be the next Nexus. There is also a possibility that the images are fake.

Let us see how things turn out. Stay tuned…..

How digital dinos “Jurassic Park” changed the future of movie industry

Before CGI (Computer Generated Imaginery) was used for making movies, there was “Stop Motion”. Stop Motion is a technique that was used in the movie industry to make dinosaur’s movie before “Jurassic Park”. It is a technique whereby if you want to make dinosaurs moving; the dinosaur’s model need to move then stop and take picture then next move then stops then takes a picture again. During that time Phil Tippet from Tippet Studio was the best studio who has done stop motion.

The CGI was first experimented in I.L.M. (Industrial Light and Magic).  When people mentioned ILM, they imagine it was the place where magic happens. However, it was actually a warehouse building that was in San Rafael but it is not used anymore.  It was a place where a lot of people sitting in front of computer and experimenting on digital.

“I.L.M was not really a production facility, that’s what I love about it. It was really a lab, you know? We were inventing, we were experimenting with things” said Steve ‘Spaz’ William,’ CG Animator,ILM /”Jurassic Park”.

When Jurassic Park was first brought up, it was originally planned to be made by using stop motion and most probably by adding some motion blur technique. However, there were a team of people who wanted to do it as a CG (Computer Graphic). The challenge of making Jurassic Park at that time was that how to make the dinosaurs to have a fluid movement and breathing, to make it seems alive.

As a result, Steven Spielberg and a team of people who are basically the makers of “Jurassic Park” made a bold movement and came out with digital dinosaurs for their upcoming sci-fi summer blockbuster. It was game changing move. Thus, nowadays, more and more movies is depending on the CGI to make something that cannot be done physically but it can be done using graphics and on top of that it will have realistic attributes to it. Some of these movies are the animal in “Life of PI”, the storm in “Twister” and “Avatar”.
