Specs for two upcoming Snapdragon chipsets from Qualcomm have leaked online which comes with ARM’s recent announced Cortex A72 architecture having the codename “Maia”. The two chipsets are called as the MSM8976 and the MSM8956 and are said to be belonging to Qualcomm’s mid-range family of Snapdragon 618 and 620. The company is currently having the 64bit Snapdragon 615 chipset which we have seen in devices like the Samsung Galaxy A7. The two chipsets would be aimed at offering better power/consumption ratio.
The spec sheet shows that the MSM8956 would be having two Cortex-A72 clocked at 1.8GHz and four 1.2GHz Cortex A53 cores. Similarly the MSM8976 which is likely the Snapdragon 620 is said to have a octa-core configuration which would have four Cortex A72 cores clocked at 1.8GHz, instead of two.
The spec sheets additionally shows the Adreno 510 graphic chipset which supports the QHD display @60fps refresh rate and offers camera support up to 21MP with 1080p video recording @60fps. The chipsets are listed to be 28nm offering 70% power saving as claimed by ARM, wherein the Cortex A72 cores are made with 16nm process.
