Samsung Confirmed Rotative Circular Dial Feature for Smartwatch

Earlier today, Samsung has released an official announcement regarding the new feature for the smartwatch OS in the company’s Tizen Developer Summit 2015 in Bangalore. The OS which is known as the Tizen OS will be implemented for the smartwatch which built with a round bezel ring surrounding the product’s display screen. Therefore, by using this ring, users will be able to navigate through the apps by rotating it.


Tizen OS is Samsung’s open source OS for smartwatch especially those which is built to have a rounded display screen size. However, the company did not mention specifically that it is for the upcoming Gear A smartwatch or any other product. Gear A smartwatch will be Samsung’s first smartwatch with round display screen size and it is most probably going to have that feature.


On top of that, the device is also rumored to come with a dual-core Exynos processor, a 768MB RAM, a 4GB internal storage and a 250mAh battery size. Other features such as display resolution of 360 x 360, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi as well as 2G cellular connectivity.


A recent rumors also mentioned that Gear A smartwatch will also have Samsung Pay capabilities but with limited functionality. There is no confirmation from Samsung regarding the specification so far but Samsung will officially showcase the device on August 13 in the Samsung’s event.

Since long, there has been a rumors about Samsung currently working on circular display smartwatch. The smart wearable is likely to be called as Gear A or Samsung Orbis  and is expected to be unveiled in September along with the Galaxy Note 5.


Last month, Samsung has confirmed this news of making a circular display smartwatch by teasing a new Gear SDK. Samsung has now made the SDK available to be downloaded and hence we can get the glimpse of the Tizen UI which is the expected OS for the watch. Additionally, the SDK also gives the information for some of the features that the Orbis / Gear A is likely to come along with. This includes a rotary bezel similar to the Apple’s Digital Crown wherein by rotating the bezel users can zoom in and out the  images, adjust the volume and even navigate between screens.


The Samsung Gear A /  Orbis is likely to have a 1.65inch display with 360 x 360 pixel resolution, heart rate monitor, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, cellular connectivity and GPS. This smart wearable can also prove to be one of the most interesting devices from the Samsung camp. Take a look at what the UI has to offer:

Samsung gives a hint for its upcoming smartwatch with circular display

There has been quite a talk going on these days regarding the circular display smartwatch from Korean tech giant Samsung. The company has today confirmed all the previous rumors wherein a recent press release by the company announced that the company is planning to unveil the SDK for its next-gen smartwatch before officially unveiling it. The blog post from the company contains a teaser image of a smartwatch with circular display. However, note that this is not the official confirmation but a big hint towards that direction.


This would be the seventh smartwatch from the company in its Gear line-up. The smartwatch would be code named with Orbis and could be branded as the Samsung Gear A. Unlike the other smatwatches from the Gear family, the Gear A would be based on the Tizen operating system as Samsung wants its own OS for its smart wearables. The teaser image shows the company to be working with other developers like FidMe, Yelp, Baidu, CNN and Apposter.


However, some of the previous rumors claim that the company would be launching two version of the Orbis/ Gear A smartwatch. The basic of the two would be having Bluetooth connectivity while the advanced would be having a 3G connectivity wherein users would be able to place direct calls from the wristware. Additional rumors include the wearable to be having a rotating dial, wireless charging capabilities and a crown shaped power button. Take a look at the teaser image.

Samsung’s circular Gear A smartwatch to have calling feature with 3G

Well, Samsung is currently eyeing for a new circular dial smartwatch most probably in famous “Gear” segment and aiming to bring a perfect smartwatch to its users. This circular smartwatch is most probably given the name Gear A. Codenamed as “Orbis” the smart wearable is reported to be coming in two variants one of which will be having a Bluetooth connectivity and the other with a 3G and calling support. However, both these versions could be connected to Wi-Fi networks too.


There is also an additional information regarding the different Gear A models revealing the smart wearable to be offered to some prime US telecom services like Sprint, Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile. You can check out the list at the source link below.
