Sony to unveil Xperia M4 Aqua at MWC 2015 alongside the Xperia Z4 Tablet

Although Sony probably won’t unveil its next flagship Xperia Z4 at the MWC 2015 next month, at least two other Sony devices are possibly going to make it. Sony accidently revealed its new Xperia Z4 Tablet a couple of days back giving rise to speculations that the Japanese giant would be introducing it at the MWC. Now according to XperiaBlog, Sony would also be introducing its new Xperia M4 Aqua at the event.

Xperia M4 Aqua will be the successor to Xperia M2 Aqua released by the company last year but Sony seems to have skipped a number in-between. Nothing much is known about the handset apart from the fact that it will be a mid-range phone and will come with Android 5.0 Lollipop pre-installed. As the name suggests, Xperia M4 Aqua will have a high level of dust and water resistance with possibly IP65/IP68 certification. It may also offer LTE connectivity.

A tipster has provided extracts from some official documents showing that the Xperia M2 Aqua will be running Android 5.0 Lollipop (software build 26.1.A.0.XXX). The documents also show the Xperia Z4 Tablet coming with Android 5.0 Lollipop but with software build 28.0.A.0.XXX.

Since the Mobile World Congress is just round the corner, we will get more information about them soon. We will be coming out with more details about the two devices as soon as we receive them. So stay tuned.

Huawei’s MWC teaser hints at a new 4G LTE standalone smartwatch

Just a few days back Huawei had revealed its roadmap for 2015 informing that it would be releasing several new devices during the year which also included an Android Wear smartwatch among others. Now the Chinese mobile maker has released a couple of teasers on its official Weibo profile, both containing the phrase “Next is here”.

One of the teasers could very well be for a smartwatch that Huawei may be planning to unveil at the MWC 2015 in Barcelona next month. This teaser shows a crescent shaped design with a star at one end which might be hinting at Huawei’s upcoming smartwatch with such a curved design. The phrase “Next is here” could mean that the next upgrade version of its smartband is here. Huawei had released its smartband TalkBand B1 last year which is a fitness band that also doubles as a Bluetooth headset.

Huawei-teaser-1

The teaser also has the words “4G LTE” on top left hand corner which could mean it could be a standalone smartwatch supporting 4G LTE networks, a step ahead of Samsung’s Gear S which is also a standalone device but supports 3G. Huawei’s CEO Richard Yu had hinted in September last year that the company’s smartwatch will be a standalone piece like the Tizen-powered Samsung Gear S.

Huawei-teaser-2

The second teaser could be that of Huawei’s Honor X2 (MediaPad X2) tablet, a successor to Huawei MediaPad X1. This teaser too has the words 4G LTE suggesting that the tablet phone will support it. This new tablet is also expected to be introduced at the MWC. Latest rumors suggest that this next gen tablet will feature a 7-inch display with 1920 x 1200 resolution, Huawei’s own Hisilicon Kirin 925 processor, 3GB RAM and a 5500 mAh battery. The tablet is said to be priced at about 1999 Yuan ($320).

Well, MWC 2015 is just round the corner and we will know more then.

Sony allegedly working on a 13-inch Xperia Z4 Tablet Ultra with some awesome specs

Rumors and leaks about Sony’s various upcoming Xperia Z4 series of devices never seem to stop. Till now, we have heard about the flagship smartphone Sony Xperia Z4, Sony Xperia Z4 Compact, Sony Xperia Z4 Ultra phablet and Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet. A fresh leak has now emerged pointing towards another upcoming device in the Xperia Z4 family, the bigger 13-inch Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet Ultra.

Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet Ultra

The leaked Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet Ultra will apparently have some awesome specifications. It is supposed to feature a 12.97-inch Triluminos IPS display with X-Reality and 3,840 x 2,400 resolution, meaning a 4K ultra HD with a ratio of 16:10.

Other remarkable features of the Xperia Z4 Tablet Ultra include a 6GB RAM (3GB x 2, UPDDR4 : 25.6GB/s), 64GB Internal storage and a whopping 12,100mAh battery. It will be powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 (MSM8994AC) processor clocked at 2.85GHz. The tablet will have an 8MP rear camera with Exmor RS 1/2.3” CMOS sensor and 25mm f/1.8 Carl Zeiss Sonnar T* OSS lens. It will be 8.6mm in thickness and will offer PS4 Remote Play support.

There is speculation that Sony might introduce this new tablet at the CES in January 2015 or MWC in March 2015. Well, we’ll have to wait and see.

Toshiba launches “Shared Board” TT301, a giant 24” Android Business Tablet

We generally think of Tablets as mobile devices. The 12-inch Microsoft Surface Pro 3, the 12.2-inch Samsung Galaxy Note Pro or the 13.3-inch Lenovo Yoga Tablet 2 Pro also seem quite big that way. However, Toshiba has recently launched a gigantic 24-inch tablet, the Shared Board TT301 meant for business users.

The new Toshiba TT301 tablet features a Full HD 24-inch diagonal LCD display that can also double as a monitor or a TV. It has a 1920 x 1080p resolution screen, 10 points multitouch support and a clean stylish design to match various scenarios such as hotels, offices, education places etc.

The TT301 tablet will hit the Japanese markets first but Toshiba has not revealed its pricing yet or whether it will be sold in international markets later. What do you think of Toshiba’s new tablet? Do you think the specs are ok for such a huge tablet?

Design details of Big 12.2” Apple iPad Air Plus Slate leaked, supposed to release in Q2 2015

Apple seems to be working on a big 12.2” tablet which will probably be released in spring next year. Japanese publication of the magazine Mac Fan has allegedly published design and measurement details about Apple’s upcoming iPad in its January 2015 issue. This is the same tablet that Apple was rumored to be working on and release in second quarter of 2015.

According to the leaked blueprint, the new iPad Air Plus will measure 305.31mm x 220.8mm x 7mm or 12in x 8.7in x .28 in. It will be much larger and thicker compared to iPad Air 2 which has the dimensions of 240mm x 169.5mm x 6.1mm.

The drawings indicate that the slate will sport a 12.2” LCD display, a home button having TouchID fingerprint scanner and the Apple’s next gen A9 processor. The new A9 processor is also expected to be used in iPad Air 3 and iPhone 6s to be released next year. The iPad Air Plus will have four built-in speakers mounted in four directions to give stereo sound playback even if the iPad is rotated in any direction.

The large iPad Air Plus may appeal to professionals as a replacement to laptops. According to Mac Fan, the slate would be ready to be shipped in the second quarter (April to June) of 2015.

Apple iPad Air Plus details

The Mac Fan January issue also mentions that Apple will launch a smaller iPad mini 4 that will be powered by A8x processor and will have the same design as in iPad Air 2. It also says that “iPad mini 3 will be removed from Apple’s lineup”. Not surprising really, as the mini 3 only has an additional TouchID, all other features more or less being the same.

It remains to be seen whether these rumors have any truth in them.

Google releases 4 new ads as Android Lollipop rollout begins on Nexus devices

Google recently announced that the roll out of Android Lollipop has started and it would soon be available on most of its Nexus devices. It has now released four new Android commercials on its YouTube account. As in earlier ads, these new commercials also feature Androidified animated characters.

Each commercial focuses on a different theme. Google seems to have adopted a new slogan for Android – “be together. not the same”. This line appears at the end of each ad.

Take a look at the commercials:

1. Android: Break Room

This ad shows the scene near the water cooler in a break Room and what happens when you look at your smartwatch when you have a full cup of beverage in your hand. Two characters who first look at their watch are shown wearing square-faced smartwatch (Like the LG G Watch) and the third one spilling the drink is wearing a round-faced watch like the Motorola Moto 360 or the LG G Watch R. Then comes the tagline, “all kinds of watches for all kinds of wrists.”

2. Android: Garage Band

This video shows a band playing music and it is being recorded with a camera. One member of the band is over enthusiastic and inadvertently knocks over the camera. After a short pause, they continue to sing and the tag line “awesome cams for awesome hams” shows up on the screen.

3. Android: Scary Movie

In this video, a lady is shown sitting in an airplane watching a movie on a tablet in her lap. Two men sitting on either side of her, watch it by looking over her shoulders and a third person watches from behind. The movie seems to be a scary one because all of them jump at the same time. The tag line “bigger screens for bigger screams” shows up on the screen.

4. Android: Slightly Longer Road Trip

This commercial shows many people traveling in an RV of the 80s era, all grooving to the song  “Whoomp there it is” by Tag Team. Their vehicle stops at a toll booth and the toll tax collector also joins up with them, dancing to the song and then comes the tag line, “be together. not the same”.

All the four ads are quite appealing. Will they inspire you to buy an Android device?

Sony may launch a new 12-inch Tablet in Q1 of 2015

Sony Mobile is rumored to be working on a large 12-inch tablet, which it is planning to launch in the first quarter (Jan-March) of 2015. This hint has come from supply chain makers in Taiwan. According to sources, this will be a high-end tablet with a stylus and will be primarily meant for graphics. This means that the tablet will cater to a niche market.

Unfortunately, no other details about the tablet are known as yet but since it will be high-end, it will have a high resolution screen and a great processor. If it is made a part of the Xperia family, it will have a thin water proof body.

Apparently several other mobile manufacturers are also planning to come out with big size tablets next year. Although the demand for larger sized tablets is expected to be moderate, the vendors are keen to enter this market segment.

Sony had recently unveiled the small sized Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact at the IFA. Currently, Sony’s largest Tablet is the Xperia Z2 Tablet having a 10.1-inch touch screen. Other large-sized tablets available in the market are Samsung Galaxy Note Pro with a 12.2-inch display and Microsoft Surface Pro 3 having a display of 12 inches. Apple is reportedly working on a new huge 12.9-inch tablet that will be powered by A8X chipset.

Sony is expected to unveil its new 12-inch tablet at either the CES or the MWC in 2015 possibly along with its next flagship, the Xperia Z4.

Sony Xperia Z3 Tablet is on its Way!

New-Sony-Xperia-Tablet-Z3-might-be-coming-soonEarlier this year, around February, Sony introduced the Sony Xperia Z2 tablet. And now, not even yet on the last quarter of the year, Sony is rumoured to be launching Z2’s next generation, the Sony Xperia Z3 tablet.  This coming September Sony will be hosting an event at IFA 2014 in Berlin, where it is anticipated that they will announce about the Z3 tablet side by side the Sony Xperia Z3 Compact. The Z3 compact is the company’s upcoming smartphone said to be displaying a 5.15-inch screen and housing a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor with 3GB RAM and 32GB of internal storage capacity. It will also include a microSD slot for extra storage, an amazing 20.7mp rear cam and 2mp fromt snapper.

A Sony tablet with a model number SGP621 approved by the Indonesian authorities is suspected to be the Xperia Z3 smartphone. As said on my source, the SGP621 following similar LTE variants as the Xperia Z and the Xperia Z3. If Xperia Z was the SGP321, and Xperia Z2 was SGP521. Then SGP621 might be Z3?

What should we expect from the Sony Xperia Z3 tablet?

It is said that we are looking for a very thin device sporting 10.1-inch display and water-resistant body. The last feature being very agreeable, I must say, considering the alleged thickness of the Z3. It also has 4G LTE support on-board. No details yet about the resolution and other specification. That’s all information we have now for the Z3 tablet. What are your expectations about the Sony Xperia Z3 tablet? Tell us what you think!

New LG Nexus Tablet appears in Import Database, could be Nexus 8 or new model of Nexus 10

An LG Nexus Tablet has been spotted in the import list of Indian import/export tracker Zauba. A June 4 listing on the Zauba website shows a brand new LG Nexus tablet originating from UAE has entered India through Bangalore Air Cargo.

Earlier this month we saw Prototypes of Nexus 8 Tablets entering India on the same website. It is possible that the LG Nexus Tablet is the same Nexus 8 which we saw earlier. Or alternatively, there is also a possibility that this is the Nexus 10 Tablet that LG might be developing since the listing does not mention its screen size. Nexus 10 was introduced by Google in 2012 it is rumored to be getting replaced by a new model.

LG Nexus Tablet listing

Unfortunately, not much information is available in the import manifest except that the LG Nexus Tablet will have 32GB of storage memory. Nexus 7 has been manufactured by Asus while Nexus 10 has been developed by Samsung. HTC is rumored to be working on a 8.9-inch Nexus Tablet which might be the Nexus 9 or maybe Nexus 8.

Google’s Nexus 8 is tipped to be powered by 64-bit NVIDIA Tegra K1 CPU and sport a 2GB RAM, 16GB and 32GB internal storage options, an 8MP primary shooter and a 3MP front-facing one.

Everyone expected Google to unveil its next Nexus Tablet at the I/O 2014 developer conference but that was not to be. It appears that the new Tablet will be introduced when the Android L is launched this fall.

Google-LG to bring Project Tango Based Device to Consumers in 2015

At its annual developers conference I/O 2014, Google announced that it would be working jointly with LG on Project Tango to bring a commercial Tango based device into the hands of consumers by 2015. It will most likely be a 3D-sensing Tablet although no further details were given out by Google.

Project Tango is a 3D mapping project on which Google’s Advanced Technology and Projects Group (ATPG) has been working since 2013 to bring 3D effects to smartphones and Tablets. According to Google, “The goal of Project Tango is to give mobile devices a human-scale understanding of space and motion.”

Project Tango Based Device-1

The Tango project is being carried out jointly with University of Minnesota, George Washington University, Bosch and Qualcomm. During the Google I/O conference, it was demonstrated that Project Tango uses multiple high resolution cameras, motion sensors and depth sensors to create a 3D effect just like human eyes.

The Google-LG partnership for the Project Tango based device is still in the early stages. The hardware specifications are as yet unclear. For the project, Google is working with Unreal Engine 4, Unity engine and Qualcomm Vuforia platform.

Leaked Photos of Motorola XOOM 3 Tablet

The discontinued Motorola XOOM 3 tablet’s pictures were leaked recently. The pictures show the third version of Motorola XOOM series. From the leak we can see that the tablet was near to its market release when it was abandoned by Motorola. The leaks show the pictures of the  XOOM 3 tablet prototype.

The leak reveals that the tablet has Kevlar coating on its backside and its overall looks are similar to the Droid smartphone. The phone possibly runs Android JellyBean and it has very thin from factor. Not much can be deduced from the pictures, but XOOM 3 was possibly discontinued after Lenovo’s acquisition of Motorola from Google. The tablet seemed to be a Droid Xyboard device due to its Verizon branding on the backside.

The major reason for the discontinuation of XOOM 3 is failure of both XOOM and XOOM 2. The Motorola was not successful in striking the cord with tablet buyers which resulted in company droping the the whole XOOM series. But the features of the XOOM 3 show that Motorola is still working on a perfect combination of hardware and software for a tablet. The future of Motorola’s tablets looks promising after the company was able to capture the smartphone market with its Moto series. So we may hopefully see a great tablet from Motorola in future.

Intel to Power More than 130 Tablets this Year

We all know that Intel has a great desire to be in tablet market. This was evident by Intel’s recent partnership with Chinese chip manufacturer Rockchip. The company is claiming that its Atom Processor is to power over 130 tablets this year. These tablets would be for both Windows as well as Android. This is a huge leap for Intel which is by far a frontrunner in PC processor market. As until now apart from PCs, Intel’s processor have not made its way in to many tablets or smartphones.

This major announcement was made by Intel President Renee James at Computex 2014. She said “Innovation waits for nobody, and stops for nothing”. According to her Intel tech would step up on manufacturing smaller chips and “Internet Things”. The company also announced a variety of other things at Computex, including a quad-core chip with each processing unit running at 4GHz. It also made the first phone call using a phone powered by SoFIA–a design that uses in-house Intel processing but is manufactured by outside foundries.

After the departure of Nvidia from tablet space, Intel’s entry would give a new push to this market. Qualcomm is the leading manufacturer of tablet SoC’s followed by Mediatek. So, Intel launching over 130 tablets would add a major player in tablet market.  The target of Intel this year is having upto 40 million of its chipsets running of various devices. As Intel CEO Brian Krzanich said, “I’m not giving up on the phone and the tablet space”. This goal seems to be realistic as it is rumored that next Nexus tablet is set to run Intel SoC.

Now it is quite interesting to see where this new class of tablet chipset will take the company. For years Intel has dominated the PC and Laptop processor market and only time will tell if it is able to do the same in tablet and smartphone world.
