Mediatek"s Super-Midrange SoC For Android Tablets

MediaTek is well known for their affordable ARM-based processor chips. Many of the mid to high range phones sold today use their chips. This makes MediaTek one of the most important players in the smartphone industry. In a recent announcement MediaTek revealed its new SoC (System on Chip), the MediaTek MT8127. This chip is designed fot mid and high end devices.

The General Manager of MediaTek’s Home Entertainment Business unit, Joe Chen said

We believe that the MT8127, with its highly integrated system, rich multimedia capabilities and optimal cost-performance ratio, is the best offer in the mid-range tablet market today. It is another example of our dedication to providing high-end technology to the mainstream market.”


The MediaTek MT8127 SoC has the following specifications:



  • Can support a 1920×1200 Full HD display

  • Full HD 1080p video playback and recording

  • MediaTek MiraVision technology for DTV-grade picture quality

  • quad-core ARM Mali-450 MP4 GPU

  • upto 1.5GHz quad-core ARM Cortex-A7 processor

  • Support for up to 13MP camera

  • Wi-Fi certified Miracast and NFC

  • Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi, FM receiver and GPS


It now supports the new HEVC (H.265) video standard uses 50 percent less video bandwidth compared to the old HEVC (H.264) video standard.


The MT8127 has four ARM Cortex-A7 processors and a quad-core ARM Mali-450 MP4 GPU. It can handle Full HD 1080p video playback. It can also record 1080p video thanks to its support for a 13MP camera. Other features of this SoC include Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi, FM receiver and GPS.


One Touch Pixi 7 tablet of Alcatel is one of the first devices to use this chip. Vice President and Smart Connectivity Business Unit Director for ALCATEL ONETOUCH, Vittorio Di Mauro said:
