Alleged prototype of Huawei Nexus appears in a video, reveals fingerprint sensor on the back

As is rumored since long, two Nexus devices are expected to be launched this year by Google, one of which will be made by Huawei and the other will be the 2015 edition of Nexus 5. A couple of days back we saw some interesting 3D renderings of the Nexus 5 (2015) leaked in a video and now we have a video showing the Huawei Nexus smartphone.

It is a 10-second video posted by Steve Hemmerstoffer of @OnLeaks who has quite a good track record for leaking information about unannounced devices. The alleged Huawei Nexus smartphone in the video has a matte finish but it is difficult to say whether it is plastic or metal. Nexus 5 has a plastic cover. The camera in the leaked Huawei-made device looks similar to the one present in the Nexus 5.

Samsung Galaxy S6 to have a taller home button for touch-based fingerprint sensor for Samsung Pay

There are strong rumors floating since days that Samsung this time is too going to opt for a much simpler touch-based fingerprint sensor for the upcoming Galaxy S6. Recently, the company is having a swipe fingerprint sensor on its flagship handsets like the Galaxy S5, Note 4 and the Note Edge handsets. The touch-based system will definitely be more simpler and faster for these large screen devices. For this, the home button of the device is said to be a bit larger and taller so that to make it more easy for users for finger recognition.

The above image at the top is the official render of the Samsung Galaxy S6 from T-Mobile. The earlier Korean publications have claimed that they would incorporate a more taller fingerprint reader for the upcoming Samsung flagship. If you carefully at the above image where the handset has been shown placed upside down at the right side, you can see a more squarish touch home-button.

Rumors are also strong for Samsung to be bringing the Samsung Pay -its own mobile payment system most probably via fingerprint recognition, which means expecting a new touch-based more efficient and faster fingerprint sensor could prove to be right. Well, things will be clear at the official announcement before MWC this Sunday on March 1st.

Huawei P8 to arrive in April along with a “lite” model

The Huawei P8 is likely to go official on the 15th of April in London. The handset is expected to host specs like a 5.2inch screen shielded by Corning Gorilla Glass 3 having a display resolution of 1080×1920 pixels. The pixel density is good enough with 424 ppi. Under the hood is expected to be a 64-bit octa-core HiSilicon Kirin 930 CPU supported with 3GB of RAM memory and 32GB of internal storage. The rear camera is 13MP which comes with OIS. The device is also said to have a fingerprint sensor and would be running the Android 5.0 Lollipop. The battery juice for the device is assumed to be 2600mAh.

However, a recent tweet by Antonio Monaco – tech journalist suggest that there might be two variants of the Huawei P8 during the launch in April. The tech journalist says that the company could come with a “Lite” model in addition to regular version.

V/ery much obvious that the “Lite” version of the handset would be having some dropped down specs with 72op pixel resolution with 2GB of RAM. The fingerprint scanner might not be present while a 13MP can be expected as many mid-range handsets these days offer it. The regular version of the handset is expected to be somewhere around $480.

Apple files patent to incorporate Touch ID fingerprint sensors into device displays

A new patent application published recently by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office has revealed that Apple is thinking of incorporating fingerprint sensors into the display stack of an electronic device such as an iPad or iPhone. This is an alternative system to the current Touch ID system used by Apple in the home buttons of its recent devices including iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPad Air 2 and iPad Mini 3.

The patent is titled “Fingerprint Sensor in an Electronic Device” explaining that a single fingerprint could be captured on the display at a single pre-determined fixed location or at any location. Even multiple touches on the electronic display could be captured, one fingerprint at a time or all fingerprints at once. The fingerprint sensor could be integrated into the circuit attached either to the cover sheet’s bottom surface or near the bottom surface or to the top surface of the display.

Alternatively, the whole panel could also be implemented as a fingerprint sensor which Apple calls as “full panel fingerprint sensor”. This full panel fingerprint sensor could also function as a touch sensing device. This means that the device can detect touch inputs as well as scan fingerprints.

For example, to unlock an iPhone or iPad or a third-party app, the user may be asked to place their finger on a specific spot depicted by an icon or an image on the display screen for identity verification. Apple could even use an advanced system that can scan and identify multiple fingerprints placed anywhere on the screen. Scanning more than one or all fingerprints would provide additional security.
