Lenovo unveils Vibe X2, world"s 1st layered smartphone and 1st to have Mediatek octa-core processor

IFA 2014 has brought a lot of goodies and among them is the sleek and stylish Lenovo Vibe X2, touted as the ‘World’s first layered smartphone’. The handset also boasts of an octa-core chip by Mediatek, which is a first too. According to Lenovo, the octa-core processor helps to increase the battery life.

Lenovo Vibe X2 has a unique three-layered design with each layer of a different shade or color. Accessories in the form of extra battery and speaker dock can be just clicked-on at the back of the phone, forming additional layers or ’Xtensions’.  The Vibe X2 battery is only 5.1mm thick but can enhance the battery life by up to 75%. It also protects the phone. The Vibe X2 JBL audio speaker provides improved audio and has a kickstand to prop up the phone on a table.

The 5MP front facing camera of the Lenovo Vibe X2 allows you to take a selfie picture even with the blink of your eyes, a wave of your hand or other gestures.

Sony announces Xperia E3 budget smartphone at the IFA 2014

The IFA 2014 also saw Sony announcing a budget smartphone in its popular Xperia series, the Xperia E3 along with its dual SIM version. It is touted by Sony to be the “Fun and fast smartphone that brings you flagship experiences without the price tag.” The Xperia E3 is a slim and light phone with design similar to the company’s latest flagship the Xperia Z3, but with certain compromises in material and a few other features to cut down the cost.

Although Sony has made some noteworthy improvements in the Xperia E3 as compared to its predecessor the Xperia E1, its screen resolution remains more or less same. Also, its bezels are quite thick with poor screen-to-phone ratio.  But its screen is made of durable tempered glass and is scratch resistant. The corners are also specially designed to prevent scratches due to unexpected bumps.

At the second day of IFA 2014 Berlin expo, Nokia has announced its two Skype and selfie toting smartphones the Lumia 735 and the Lumia 730 Dual SIM. Both the device hosts a powerful Full-HD 5MP fornt facing camera with wide-angle which allows more number of people to be snapped is a shot.

Both the devices have Lumia Selfie app pre-loaded in them that allows to create original selfies. Both the devices run the latest available Windows 8.1 that allows users to switch between the voice and Skype video calls with just a tap and with the built-in microphones and intelligent Lumia voice-processing technology, users can get very clear audio even in noisy conditions. Selected markets will even get a free three-month Skype Unlimited World so it will be easier for you to connect with families and folks that are overseas through international calls.

At its back, the device hosts a 6.7MP primary camera which too produce excellent results even in low-light conditions and the Nokia Camera offers some very good customizable shooting options and even post shot editing features along with it.

Sony Xperia Z3 goes official at the IFA 2014, features and specs detailed

The eagerly awaited Sony’s next flagship smartphone, the Sony Xperia Z3 has been unveiled by the company at its IFA 2014 press event. In line with its official strategy, the Japanese tech major has introduced its next flagship the Xperia Z3 just six months after its predecessor, the Xperia Z2.

Apart from the Xperia Z3, Sony also officially released the Xperia Z3 Compact, Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact, the Xperia E3, Sony SmartWatch 3 and the SmartBand Talk as expected.

Here’s all you need to know about the new Sony Xperia Z3:

Design:

As we know, Sony has adopted the OmniBalance design theme for its Xperia Z series since the introduction of Xperia Z smartphone. Sony believes that a smartphone must be “easy to use no matter how you hold it, and beautiful from any angle.” The Xperia Z3 also confirms to this design but has a slightly rounded frame. It has durable tempered glass front and rear panels, and high quality aluminium frame with nylon corners for additional protection.

The Sony Xperia Z3 looks slimmer and more stylish. It has a smaller frame of 146 x 72mm (against 146.8 x 73.3 of Xperia Z2) and is thinner at 7.3mm (versus 8.2mm of Xperia Z2 ) and it weighs 152g, a good 11g less than the Xperia Z2 that weighs 163g. Its bezels are also thinner.

The handset has a dust and waterproof design with IP65/68 rating. The device is available in four color options – two new colors silver green and copper apart from the standard Black and White.

Hardware and Specs:

Specs of the Sony Xperia Z3 are more or less same as those of Xperia Z2 with Sony sticking to Full HD resolution screen and Snapdragon 801 but higher clocked. There are several upgrades though. However, the battery is 3100mAh, a slightly lower capacity as compared to the 3200mAh battery of the Xperia Z2, perhaps to fit inside the smaller frame. Although according to Sony, the battery life has been extended and will last for 2 days under normal use and more with stamina mode.  The Xperia Z3 will also have a 32GB version apart from the normal 16GB one.

Sony Xperia Z3 will be available in dual-SIM version in some regions. The phone will support Cat 4 LTE speeds of up to 150 Mbps. The handset is capable of communicating with Sony PlayStation 4 console through its PS4 Remote Play. You can use the Xperia Z3 as a remote screen for the PS4 games or play the games on the phone’s screen. The handset also has Sony’s Walkman software for high-resolution audio. It has DSEE HX audio upscaling for low quality audio. It also features front speakers with S Force Front Surround giving out loud and clear music.

Release date and pricing:

Sony has said that the Xperia Z3 will be launched globally sometime in autumn this year, so it might be released in September-end or October 2014. The company has not yet declared its pricing.

Galaxy Note 4 unwrapped!

Samsung has announced its next-generation phablet,Galaxy Note 4 -ahead of the IFA 2014 tech expo in Berlin. Galaxy Note 4 has a 5.7-inch display that is curved from the left to right. It is the first mainstream Samsung phone to feature a curved screen.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is a praiseworthy successor to the legendary phablet family with every feature put into overdrive. It’s the first Note not to grow the screen size, which remains at 5.7″, but it.

Samsung has enhanced the display resolution in Galaxy Note series, from Full HD (1080x1920p) in Note 3 to QHD (1440x2560p) in Note 4. Obviously,it is Super AMOLED covered by 2.5D Gorilla Glass 3. It has nearly 80% more pixels thanks to its new QHD resolution pushing the pixel density from 386ppi to 515ppi.

Under the hood, the Indian version of Samsung Galaxy Note 4 has an octa-core processor (1.9GHz quad-core + 1.3GHz quad-core); the international variant has a 2.7GHz quad-core processor of mysterious make. The phablet comes with 3GB RAM and internal memory of 32GB(also support for 64GB microSD card). There’s a 3,220mAh battery powering the phablet with a provision of adding the optional Qi wireless charging panel if you like.

The camera department has been upgraded featuring a 16MP rear shooter with optical image stabilization. The front-facing camera has a 3.7MP resolution that allows users to take wide-angle selfies (120-degree).

Galaxy S5 features like fingerprint sensor embedded in the Home key and heart rate monitor on the back also finds a place in Galaxy Note 4. Samsung has also included a hall sensor and barometer in its new phablet. It features three microphones for noise suppression that is so advanced that a special app can silence selected sources of noise from an audio recording.

On the software side, Samsung has used an interface that is largely the same as that of Galaxy S5. The phablet will run Android 4.4 KitKat at launch with all the new TouchWiz features Samsung has come up since the Galaxy S5 launch .It also comes with additional software optimized to make use of the S Pen stylus. The accompanying software (S Note, Multi-window) has also been enhanced. The S Note app gets its own widget on the Galaxy Note 4, so that users can access the core functionality of the stylus as soon as they unlock it. A new Snap Note app will turn photos of printed documents into editable text.

The Galaxy Note 4 has a metal frame like the Galaxy Alpha and a faux leather back, which will come in Charcoal black, Blossom Pink, Bronze Gold and  and Frosted white. There’s no water resistance though (again, like the Galaxy Alpha).

The phablet will be available in October, the pricing isn’t announced just yet.

Newly leaked Moto X+1 design details highlights some of its design details

The Moto X+1 is likely the next device from Motorola and the device has been quite in news for some past time with many rumors floating. Recently leaked images of the device show it with its front and back panel. The front panel shows a loudspeaker just below the display as seen in the Moto and the one above remains unconfirmed whether it is a loudspeaker or just a earpiece. Four sensors also seem to be placed at four corners of the phone. Functionality for the sensors is still not known at the moment.

The back panel shows up a camera with an bigger sized Motorola logo. The ring surrounding the camera has a built-in flash and the logo is considered as a power button. Looking to the image, it is clear that the device has a wood finished back surrounded with aluminum frame. According to the Source s, the handset would be available in different material options for its back like leather, denim, wood , plastic and even a carbon fibre option that is said to be coming exclusive to Verizon. Motorola event is slated for tomorrow when we expect to get the details more clear as things get official.

Sony Xperia E3 Will Also Be Announced at IFA 2014

Everyone is expecting Sony to present Z3 Compact Tablet, Z3 Compact and Xperia Z3 at IFA 2014 this week. But this year in Berlin, Sony has one more surprise for all and it wasn’t known before that the company will announce one more Smartphone in September. As reported by the 9to5Google, the Z3 line will not be alone at IFA and Xperia E3 will also be presented in the company’s press event.

Xperia E3 is expected to be an affordable handset and this phone will be the successor of two Sony’s phones: Xperia E and Xperia E1. The reported features of this upcoming smartphone are:

• 4.8-inch display with 720 x 1280 pixels

• Quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor of 1.2 GHz

• RAM could be 1.5 GB or 2 GB

• Operating System: Android 4.4 KitKat (highly expected OS for this phone)

It has been reported that the Xperia E3 will cost somewhere between $200 and $300. All the upcoming Z3 devices will be water resistant but the Xperia E3 will not have this feature.

This is not all; Sony will be presenting much more devices on IFA than these. Along with the new tablets and smartphones, Sony is expected to present SmartBand Talk and SmartWatch 3 also at IFA.

Colorful Sony Xperia Z3 handsets and SmartBand Talk with curved E-link pictures revealed

Rumors and leaks have been having a field day in the run-up to the IFA 2014. Soon after the leaked full specs of the Sony Xperia Z3 and its smaller sibling the Sony Xperia Z3 Compact, a copper colored Xperia Z3 and Sony’s new fitness band the SmartBand Talk have been spotted in a leaked press image. In fact, several images showing Sony’s new flagship Xperia device have been revealed.

 

In the said image, a model holds the copper-colored Sony Xperia Z3 and is wearing a SmartBand on her wrist. The SmartBand shows the curved E-link display. Another image shows the Xperia Z3 in various colors. Apart from copper, the handset will come in Green, Black and White colors.

To recap, the Xperia Z3 is thought to be similar to the Xperia Z2 with minor improvements. It is slimmer with dimensions of 146.5 x 72.4 x 7.5mm. The device is rumored to have a 5.2-inch 1080p full HD Triluminos display, a Quad-core Snapdragon 801 chipset clocked at 2.5GHz, 3GB RAM, 16GB internal storage, micro SD slot and 20.7MP camera with 4K video recording capability. The Xperia Z3 would also be dust and waterproof IP55/IP58 certified.

Now all eyes are on the IFA 2014 events that are to begin in a few hours in Berlin. Sony is expected to unveil an impressive line-up of new devices including the Xperia Z3, the Xperia Z3 Compact, the Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact, SmartWatch 3 and SmartBand Talk.

Asus ZenWatch Will Have Voice Command, Says CEO Jerry Shen

It is highly expected that Samsung and LG will reveal their new smartwatches next week in IFA 2014 but, they have new competitor in line also. Samsung and LG have already unveiled their device as Gear S and G Watch R respectively however, Asus is waiting for September 3 and the company will reveal its first smartwatch then. Jerry Shen, CEO of Asus, has revealed a bit about their upcoming device and it has been named as Asus ZenWatch.

As reported by Focus Taiwan, ZenWatch would be available in less than $199; this report was confirmed by the company’s CEO, the source reported. The expected release month of the device is said to be of October in US and other places of the world.

Some sources reported that ZenWatch will have the price tag of $99, but some suggested it to be $149 which seems more realistic price for the device. But when compared with its competitors, the device is still cheap.

As said by the CEO of Asus, their upcoming device will have voice command feature. In start, it will only have English detecting voice recognition. At the start of this year, there were also the rumors about the device having gesture controls but no authentic source has confirmed this news.

The video below depicts that the Asus ZenWatch has a bit of curved display but this curve is not as much as the curve of the Samsung’s Tizen-based Gear S.

The much rumored Samsung Galaxy Note 4 gets spotted on Samsung Mobile website just before the IFA 2014

Its just a matter of two days after which the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is expected to be unveiled at an UNPACKED event on September 3^rd at IFA 2014 Berlin. Recently the device has made an appearance on a UAProf found on the Samsung Mobile site confirming many of its specifications. In addition to the model number SM-N920T, additional confirmations include a QHD display having 1440×2560 pixel resolution along with a 64-bit processor chipset on-board.

The upcoming flagship Galaxy note 4 is tipped to arrive with a 5.7inch display, of-course the S Pen features for which Samsung is releasing teaser videos since many days. A fingerprint sensor and a heart rate monitor with a USB 3.0 port alongside. The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 would be the first to run the Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 chipset that is likely to make an appearance with the SM-N910S model of the Galaxy Note 4. Qualcomm gives assurance for a 64-bit Snapdragon powered handset at IFA 2014

The largest smartphone chipset maker Qualcomm today confirmed that a “Snapdragon powered multi-core 64-bit smartphone” is likely to be unveiled at the IFA 2014. However, the chipmaker did not provide much information but released a teaser image. Reports coming from the industry show that this chipset could be found in the upcoming HTC Desire 820.

Unlike the HTC Desire 510 that was announced this week with a 64-bit Snapdragon 410 processor, the HTC Desire 820 is expected to host an octa-core Snapdragon 615 CPU on-board. The Snapdragon 615 comprises of four Cortex A53 cores clocked at 1.8GHz and four Cortex A53 clocked at 1.0GHz. Now if this new chipset has to arrive with the HTC Desire 820, then we believe that to explore the capabilities of Snapdragon 615 the device should run the latest launched Android L.

Huawei Ascend Mate 7 with fingerprint sensor to arrive on September 4th at IFA 2014

Chinese smartphone manufacturer Huawei, had earlier hinted with its press invite of launching a phone at the IFA. One more press invite coming from the company shows that it is all set to launch its Ascend Mate 7. Reports show that the Ascend Mate 7 scheduled for Sept 4^th launch will host a fingerprint scanner. In addition to a fingerprint scanner, the handset is also expected to have a metal back. The latest press invite doesn’t give much information except a fingerprint suggesting the feature along with the words “Touch” and “Feel”.

 

It seems that the company is all set to venture into high-end smartphone market. The Huawei Ascend Mate 7 comes in two different models of which one is a 6inch model with 1440×2560 pixel resolution while the other has the same screen size with 1080×1920 pixel resolution. The first model with higher resolution is expected to have 3GB of RAM in QHD version while the other will have 2GB of RAM in FHD version and both of them would have the company’s own Kirin 920 octa-core processor. The handset will have a 13MP primary camera on its back while its front will host a 5MP secondary camera.

The connectivity options for the device include Bluetooth 4.0, NFC, LTE and Wi-Fi. The device comes with a Dual SIM Dual Standby support and will run the latest available Android 4.4KitKat topped with Huawei’s Emotion UI.

Sony SmartWatch 3 rumored to debut at IFA 2014, won’t run Android Wear

The wearable market is blooming with more and more new smartwatches being introduced. Sony has been one of the first companies to enter the smartwatch arena. The company launched its SmartWatch 2 almost an year ago in September 2013. Since then things have been quiet with Sony on the smartwatch front. Now we have a rumor that Sony is working on its next gen smartwatch ‘the SmartWatch 3’ which it might unveil at the IFA 2014 to be held in September.

The source is none other than Digi-Wo who has a great track record for leaking correct information about Sony devices. According to Digi-Wo, the Japanese giant will not be using Google’s Android Wear for its SmartWatch 3 like it did for SmartWatch 2. Sony will be using its own indigenously developed platform to run it.

The hardware specifications of Sony’s next gen smartwatch are not mentioned in the leak but its user interface is said to be quite different from that of its predecessor. However, its basic design will be similar, having a square shape and sporting a transflective screen just like the SW2 except that it will have a higher resolution. A transflective screen gives good visibility even in direct sunlight. The need for backlight is also reduced, thus saving on battery.

SmartWatch 3 will have a Wi-Fi module inside it so that it can work independently and will not need to be paired with a smartphone. The device is also expected to have wireless charging facility and to be dust and water resistant as well.

Well, that’s all that is available at present regarding Sony’s upcoming SmartWatch 3. Sony sends out press invitations for the IFA 2014 that hint at new smartphone, lens camera and 4K TV

Sony is sending out invitations for a press conference it is holding just before the IFA 2014 in Berlin. The event is scheduled for Wednesday 3rd September, at 16.15 at Messe Berlin. Well, the invitation has found its way on the net. It contains photos about what Sony is going to showcase at the IFA such as a smartphone, a camera and a TV.

There is a side view of a smartphone which might be the eagerly awaited Xperia Z3. Sony might unveil the Xperia Z3 Compact also at the event as both the smartphones are rumored to be available in the stores in September. The Camera would be having the new plug-in lens in Sony’s QX series. There is also the image of a TV or monitor.

The Japanese company is coming out with its new curved TV with 4K resolution, which it is expected to unveil at the IFA. Sony had launched the 65-inch LCD TV last year but it has a resolution of only 1080p.

It’s less than a month left for the IFA and the excitement is building!

Romors and leaks about Sony Xperia Z3 keep surfacing time and again. With the IFA 2014 approaching, their frequency has increased. This time more photos alleged to be those of Xperia Z3 have leaked showing its front and back panels, its sides and the flaps covering various slots and ports as well as its rear camera.

It is interesting to note that some of these pics have already been leaked but were said to be those of the Xperia Z3 Compact. However, there were doubts even then as they were different from the earlier leaked photos of the Xperia Z3 Compact. So it is more probable that the new leaked photos are really those of Sony’s upcoming flagship Xperia Z3. Only time will tell.

The Xperia Z3 looks similar to the Xperia Z2 in outward appearance. A flap covers the USB port and another flap covers the microSD card slot and the SIM card slot. There are Pogo pins for charging. The pics show stereo speakers at the front and a camera at the back. The camera has a G Lens and an LED flash. There is a label showing XX.X MP, so the camera might be 20.7 MP which the leaked Xperia Z3 specs also say. This is only a partial photo of the device so the position of the power button cannot be seen. Also, no dimensions are mentioned so the screen size cannot be ascertained.

Sony has organized a press event on 3rd September regarding IFA 2014 to be held in Berlin and the company will most likely unveil its next flagship smartphone the Xperia Z3 at the time. The suspense will be out then and all the speculations will be put to rest.

According to recent leaked news, Samsung is currently developing its virtual reality (VR) headset and if the source is correct, it will be breaking the news very soon. It is reported earlier that Samsung is on its way for developing a VR headset for Galaxy Smartphones. Now, with the recent news, we might be hearing the official news from Samsung regarding its Gear VR fairly soon.

Samsung Gear VR works much like Google Cardboard but it is not made of cardboards, lenses and magnets. Gear VR is a goggle like device with OLED display and it has touchpad also. The Gear VR is not just a box with a screen. It runs software to gather data from your Smartphone then split it to generate 3D effects. It is not known yet what kind of software Gear VR is running, although it is known that Samsung is in collaboration with Oculus VR for developing Gear VR. However, it is not a matter of concern that which software Gear VR is running as it collects content from Android phones. It is also in the news that Samsung will be launching SDK for its Gear VR when it will be introduced.

That’s all for what is known about Gear VR for now. According to the news, the time of its announcement is set at IFA 2014 which will take place in Berlin from 5th to 10th September. Samsung is also expected to announce its Galaxy Note 4 around this time. After the announcement of Gear VR, developers will soon get SDK but it is not known how long Gear VR will take to reach the market.

Sony Xperia Z3 and Sony Xperia Z3 Compact to hit the shelves in September?

Since Sony is now in the habit of releasing one flagship phone every half year and since the second half of 2014 has already begun, fans are eagerly expecting the Japanese manufacturer to announce its next in the Xperia Z series. The Xperia Z3 and along with it, the Xperia Z3 Compact, successor to the Xperia Z1 Compact, may be unveiled any time now, probably during the IFA 2014 to be held in Berlin, Germany during September 5 to 10.

There have been several rumors and leaks about both the Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact regarding metal frame, certification, images, About screen etc. Now another leak has emerged which points to the September availability of both the devices.

Although there is no official statement, an internal document from the Vodafone Germany stores mentions about a raffle to be held and those getting maximum points from 01 July to 30 September 2014 will win a trip to New York on Black Friday. There are a string of smartphones mentioned and the points that will be obtained from them.

And also mentioned in the list are… hold your breath… Sony Xperia Z3 and Sony Xperia Z3 Compact and both will fetch 1.5 points each as you can see for yourself in the picture:

 

Point worth noting is that the raffle competition ends on 30 September2014 and since both Sony Xperia Z3 and Sony Xperia Z3 Compact are included in the list, it stands to reason that both the handsets must be available in the stores for purchase before 30 September.

In view of this, there are two possibilities. Either the two smartphones will be announced at the IFA in early September and will go on sale soon after within 2 to 3 weeks or they may be unveiled before the IFA and then released in the stores, as the contest has already begun on July 1 according to the picture. Of course it is possible that the document in question is not genuine.
