The latest product in Apple iPad range is the iPad Air 2. The best thing about this device is that it is thin, incredibly thin. The display of iPad Air 2 is less glossy, laminated and comes with 9.7-inch of Retina display. It feels like you are holding a digital magazine for the first time ever. You could comfortably use it on the sofa watching TV, while reading a book in bed, for sending emails while travelling and everywhere else.

Despite of its thin feature, it is much more powerful and capable than any of other iOS device ever released. It is also much faster than an older version of MacBook released from two or three years ago. The Safari tabs do not reload even with 10 of them open. You also can switch apps while doing something else and pick up right where you left off without the OS dumping whatever app was in the background.

However, actually we expected more capability on the software side but I think it will be fulfilled in the next release. You cannot buy an Apple SIM separately at present but comes with cellular-enabled versions of tablets iPad Air 2 and iPad Mini 3. It now appears that AT&T will lock the SIM to its own network and the user will have to buy a new SIM card if he wants to use another carrier. This might take some of the shine off the Apple SIM.

The new Apple’s iPad Air 2 selling price starts at $499. It is the same selling price as last year’s iPad Air selling price. It is a great product. It runs on Apple’s new A8X chip which provides 40% faster CPU performance for apps. However, the $499 is the price for iPad Air 2 16GB.

Yes, of course that any tablet product below $500 is considered cheap, especially for Apple products. However, with only 16GB of memory, I think that is a little bit expensive. Why I said it is expensive? It is because with just an additional of $100, you can get 64GB which is more than double the memory size. Yes, for $599, you can get a 64GB of iPad Air.

Maybe some of you think that you do not need a 64GB. A 16GB iPad Air is good enough for you. It does make sense if you are in education market. Normally schools who are cost-conscious will buy iPads in bulk and they do not tend to load them with a lot of apps. Therefore 16GB memory size is a perfect size for them.

However, this is not the case for the rest of us. Apple has made improvements to the camera quality in iPad Air 2 to allow you to shoot video with it which takes up more memory size, especially with the slow-mo video. On top of that, an update from iOS 7 to iOS 8 requires about 5GB of free space.

Apple is bringing Touch ID sensors to all 2014 iPhone and iPad models

According to noted KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple is planning to embed Touch ID sensors in every non-iPod iOS device launching this year, including both iPhone 6 versions, the second-generation iPad Air and refreshed iPad mini with Retina display.

Analysing Kuo’s note, he is glimpsing Touch ID shipments increasing by 233 percent this year to a cool 120 million sensors. That’s a heck of a lot of Touch IDs: by comparison, Apple shipped 36 million iPhone 5s with Touch Ids last year.

Apple’s Touch ID module should see shipments soar 233 percent in 2014. We believe every new iOS device launched this year will be equipped with Touch ID, including 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch new iPhone 6, iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 2 with Retina display.Considering shipments of new products and iPhone 5S sales last longer than in 2013, we forecast unit sales of the fingerprint sensor module to grow 233 percent to 120 million for 2014.

Kuo also notes that Apple will change its Touch ID module design to utilize tin over previously used chemicals in order to boost durability. Apple is also expected to stick with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) and its subsidary XinTec to produce the fingerprint sensors.

TSMC was recently reported to provide the first batch of Touch IDs for upcoming iPhone 6, iPad Air 2 and iPad Mini 3. However speculations are that TSMC would be using the same 8-inch fingerprint sensor processing method used for the iPhone 5s.
