The renders of Galaxy S6 Edge+ and Galaxy Note 5 displayed by Spigen on its product pages confirm the leaks and press renders we have seen till now, so no surprises there. The Galaxy S6 Edge Plus will be a bigger version of the Galaxy S6 Edge having a 5.7-inch Quad HD curved display. The Galaxy S6 Edge has a 5.1-inch QHD panel.

Leaked specs suggest the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 chipset and a 3,000mAh battery. Its dimensions will be 154.4mm x 75.8mm x 6.9mm and it will not come with a Stylus like the Galaxy Note 5.

Cases for both the devices will be shipped from September 30, so both the handsets are expected to be available in the market before that. Samsung is holding its Unpacked 2015 event August 13 when the South Korean company is expected to announce the two above mentioned handsets.

Meanwhile, have a look at the images posted by Spigen:

New Qualcomm WiPower technology brings wireless charging to metal body mobile devices

Qualcomm has announced that it has developed a new technology by which devices with metal body can be charged wirelessly. The technology called Qualcomm WiPower can charge devices with metal exteriors wirelessly, thus eliminating the need for using wires, reducing the clutter.

Qualcomm WiPower complies with the new Rezence wireless power charging standard, not using the popular PMA or Qi standards. The Rezence standard has been developed by the Alliance for Wireless Power (A4WP) that includes leading brands from various industries like Qualcomm, Microsoft, Acer, Samsung, Lenovo, LG, Asus, Motorola, Intel, and many others as members.

Qualcomm-WiPower-wireless-charging-1

Rezence was first demonstrated at the beginning of this year in January. With this standard, WiPower enables wireless charging of devices without any direct physical contact. You can even charge multiple devices having different power requirements when placed inside the same charge area. And not only charging, WiPower can also power devices such as wireless keyboard, mouse, digital photo frames and lamps.

Qualcomm WiPower works “at a frequency that is more tolerant of metal objects that come within the charge field”. So up till now, the charging process was not affected even if other metal objects such as coins or keys were lying inside the charge field. But now Qualcomm has added one more feature to WiPower, that the device to be charged could itself be made of metal. The new feature maintains the existing WiPower ability “to charge devices requiring up to 22 watts today, at speeds equal to or faster when compared to other wireless charging technologies”.

“Building a wireless charging solution into devices with metal exteriors is a significant step for moving the entire industry forward,” says Steve Pazol, GM, Wireless Charging of Qualcomm Incorporated.

It’s not clear when such WiPower-using mobile devices will be available in the market but we certainly hope to see them soon.

Cases for Samsung’s Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 EDGE+ leaked

Amidst all the rumors and leaks regarding Samsung’s upcoming and as yet unannounced Android smartphones Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 EDGE+, we have another leak about their cases.  MobileDirect, a company distributing smartphone accessories sent some images of smartphone cases to PhoneArena allegedly pertaining to the two aforementioned handsets. The information could be authentic because the same company had earlier given them the photos of dummy models of Apple’s iPhone 5 and iPhone 6.

In the images of the case for the Galaxy Note 5, we can see the cutouts for the camera and the flash. These cutouts indicate that the camera and flash system for the Notre 5 would be similar to that of the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 edge i.e. the flash will be placed on the side of the camera and not below it.  This design matches with the design of the Galaxy Note 5 case leaked a few days back by Nowhereelse.fr. The Note 5 is supposed to release in early September this year.

Coming to the Samsung Galaxy S6 EDGE+, this phone is supposed to be bigger than the Galaxy S6 edge but appears similar on the outside. So its case is also similar to that of the S6 edge except that it is bigger in size. On the inside though, the Galaxy S6 EDGE+ is supposed to carry Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 chipset instead of the Exynos 7420 present in the S6 edge. This phone is also rumored to be launched before the year-end.

Have a look at the cases of both the Samsung Galaxy smartphones below:

Introducing HydraDock which can Compliment Your MacBook

Apple’s new MacBook which was released recently has a really superb design. It is slim and light but it still able to offer full-size experience to the users. On top of that, it comes Gold, Space Grey and Silver color. Unfortunately, it only comes with a single USB-C port. HydraDock is an accessory which works well with the new MacBook as it provides extra ports that the device does not provide.

HydraDock is basically a dock which is made of plastic and measured at 12.5-inch long. When you connect it to the new MacBook, it will provide expansions to your port.  It comes with a 3.5mm stereo headphone jack, Gigabit Ethernet port, SDXXC memory card slot, Mini DisplayPort, HDMI port, four USB 3.0 port as well as two USB-C ports.

The dock is currently being funded at Kickstarter. It is selling at $99 for early bird special, however, it is selling $129 under normal price. If everything goes well, the customers will be able to get the accessory in June. The goal is to collect $35,000 and $5,750 has been collected so far.

HydraDock is placed under the new MacBook, therefore, it alleviates your MacBook. In this way, it will keep your MacBook cool as the MacBook itself does not have internal fan and hopefully, it makes it easier for you to type using the new flatter keyboard.

Standzout to display its Bandstand Apple Watch Dock at CES

Although Apple Watch itself is yet to be released in the market, its accessories have already started to make an appearance. Standzout, a mobile computing accessories manufacturer, has announced that it will be showing off its Bandstand Apple Watch Dock at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2015 in Vegas. The company dubs it as the “first great Apple Watch accessory:”

The Bandstand features an integrated charging plate that uses Apple’s induction charger. Power to it comes through a wire from the base of the dock. It also has a couple of additional USB ports where two other devices such as an iPhone or iPad could be charged. The Apple Watch can be docked at the charging plate which has a pivot to adjust the Watch angle so that it is visible from any position.

According to the company:

The Bandstand is designed from the ground up to make the experience of using the Apple Watch easier, more natural, and more beautiful. For users, it will serve as the nightly home for their new favorite tech gadget.”

Since Apple Watch is supposed to have less than a day of battery life, it will have to be charged every night, hence the “nightly home” bit.

The eagerly awaited Apple Watch is rumored to release in the market on Valentine’s Day and is expected to be a hit. Some even believe that the first year sales of Apple Watch will be around 30 million. As a result, its accessories will also be in great demand. If you are interested in the Apple Watch Dock, you can check out Standzout’s booth at the CES.

iWatch Rumored To Be Circular And Slimmer Than Moto 360

Brian Blair of Rosenblatt Securities has brought us some more iWatch rumors from Taiwan. Supply chain sources in charge of manufacturing the iWatch reveal that Apple’s iWatch will have a circular shape. This is the first time that circular screens like these are being made. Another smartwatch that is being manufactured in this form factor is the Moto 360.

According to the sources, Apple’s iWatch will be slimmer than the moto 360. Apple will probably try to make this device as slim and elegant as possible.

iWatch rumored to be circular and slimmer than Moto 360 - 2 -- Doi Toshin

The manufacture of iWatch is expected to begin in July or August. This may very well become a hot product for Apple. 18 to 21 million units of the iWatch are expected to be produced in the second half of year 2014. They seem to be very confident in this product and expect it to sell very well. iWatches for males and females are planned but the differences between them have not been revealed yet.

In the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) Apple did not reveal anything significant about the iWatch or iPhone 6. The iWatch is expected to work together with both OS X Yosemite and iOS 8. The new iOS app HomeKit seems to be made to work specifically with the iWatch. It will help users pair iOS devices like iPad and iPhone to appliances and locks in the house. The iWatch might be intended to do things like turn lights on and open locks etc.

One more app that seems to be made for iWatch is the HealthKit. Other wearable device similar to the Nike Fuelband could be used to collect data like calories burned, steps walked, sleep patterns, heart rate and other information.

Since Samsung already has the galaxy gear watch, Apple will want to secure its place in the wearables market with its own product. The battle between the two companies could take wearables to a whole new level.
