LG G Flex 2 goes official at CES 2015: Complete specs review and Images

Well, after a lot of talk and rumor buzzing, the LG G Flex 2 has been finally announced at an LG event at the CES 2015. There are many subtle changes that have been introduced as compared to its previous version, however at the moment lets head on to the detailed specs for the device the enwraps the beauty.

Display and Design

The official punch line “redefining the curve” says mostly about it but there is a lot more to it (on the technical part) than what meets the eye. Covering the top surface is the plastic OLED screen or what is said to be the P-OLED screen. This new technology differs from the regular OLED displays wherein plastic is introduced with an encapsulating glass substrate. The protective glass shield doesn’t come from Corning but is the company’s own made through the chemical bath enrichment process that offers 20% more durability. The curved shape allows full-on screen impact offers more longevity of the display. Here is an image that shows the comparison between the two G Flex models.

More-compact-and-flexible-design

Looking to the size of the display the screen has dropped to 5.5inches from the 6inch screen size of the LG G Flex. Moreover, the screen resolution has now increased form 720p HD to 1080p full HD offering an excellent 401ppi density. Moreover, LG has also worked upon the curves of the handset that snugly fits to the hands. The excellent feature is the self-healing back cover. LG has further improved upon this concept wherein the self-healing effect gets applied within 10 seconds after some minor scratches. Check the video below to understand this.

Snapdragon 810 processing power, Android Lollipop and connectivity

This is the first smartphone on the planet that bakes the newly released 64 bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chipset. This Snapdragon 810 comes with an octa-core configuration with stunning clock speeds of up to 2GHz. This chip has also got the 2GB LPDDR4 RAM which comes with faster bandwidths. The device runs the latest released 64 bit Google system Android 5.0 Lollipop skinned with the LG’s own UI with some animations and pastel tones. The handset comes in two storage options of 16GB and 32GB along with a microSD card slot for 128GB of expandable memory.

The device has some pretty good connectivity options on-board with Cat 6 LTE connectivity with downlink speeds up to 300Gbps. Additionally, it also includes the dual-band Wi-Fi, NFC, SlimPort, Bluetooth Smart Ready, USB 2.0 and GPS/Glonass.

Camera and Battery Life

The LG G Flex 2 comes with a 13MP primary camera to its back with OIS+(optical image stabilization) along with laser auto-focus. The hardware is similar to the one offered in last year’s flagship LG G3. The camera to the front is the 2.1MP secondary snapper.

The battery charges unleashes the QuickCharge facility that arrives with the Snapdragon chipset. The battery juice offered is 3000mAh and also supports high-speed charging with up to 50 percent charging in just 40 minutes with the charger available in the box.

We can say that even if it doesn’t host the perfect high-end flagship specs, it still is an excellent device from all perspectives. Check out all the available images for the device.

Qualcomm says an unknown Snapdragon 800 handset to be announced at the CES 2015

With just a week left for the biggest Consumer Electronic Show CES 2015 to commence, more news are now appearing from chip maker Qualcomm about the release of an Snapdragon 800 powered handset to be announced which has been kept suspense by the chip maker.

With the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chipset that is likely to make its debut very soon next year, the chip maker’s teaser with the Snapdragon 800 shows that the device can’t be a very premium flagship and hence we can expect some mid-range specs coming along with. The back panel image makes us to speculate that this could be a LG smartphone as it shows up some buttons on the back.

The most awaited and expected device form the LG camp to be announced at the CES 2015 is the LG G Flex 2. The successor is said to be a bit smaller than the LG G Flex, however it will still hold the same flexible display, curvy design and self-healing back cover.

LG G Flex 2: Smaller Screen Size But Higher Resolution

Unlike Apple and Samsung, which are heading towards a bigger screen for their smart phone design, LG is heading towards a compact screen design. The latest product from LG, yet to be launched, LG G Flex 2, is rumoured to have smaller screen display. However, the confirmed screen size details are not released yet.

Even though it has smaller screen size, it will have a higher resolution than FHD. A smaller screen size and a higher resolution mean that it will produce a higher pixel density, leading to a more detailed and sharp image.

There is no confirmation that LG G Flex 2 will have the same self-healing back that was very unique in original device, LG G Flex. LG G Flex is the predecessor of LG G Flex 2. Furthermore, we can expect this device to be curved from top to bottom whereas compared its peer, Samsung Galaxy Round, is curved from side to side.

LG G Flex 2 is expected to launch in South Korea, followed by US and India respectively. The released date is expected to be the end of the year. Pricing is also unknown at this moment. There is no information about the exact specification and feature of the smart phone either.

LG G Flex 2 rumored for Q1 2015 release

A tweet scattered by evleaks, reveals that the successor to the LG G Flex is expected to be released by Q1 2015. Tipster said on Twitter, “LG G Flex 2 is possibly coming with a feature even more unique than self-healing plastic.”

The original LG G Flex had a 6-inch screen and chances are that its follow-up will keep the same display size. . The rumored release date suggests that it could also be one of the first devices in the Android Silver program,a new initiative to replace the Nexus range. It might be one of the first smartphones to feature a Qualcomm MSM8994 SoC. That’s the octo-core big LITTLE Snapdragon 810 chip, which is also expected to appear early next year.

Last year reports already claimed that LG was going to make the LG G Flex 2 bendable at a 90 degree angle, somewhat akin to a clamshell handset. The LG G Flex wasn’t a very popular product among the lovers of the big-screen smartphones and, probably, one of the reasons was the resolution of its 6-inch screen. The original G Flex had 720 resolution, but LG already promised to bring better and higher-resolution flexible display panels later this year.

We will have to wait and see if these rumors come to fruition. The LG G Flex 2 is a device worth keeping tabs on.
