Qualcomm Finalized Snapdragon 820 Processor Chipset Specifications and Sending samples of it to Smartphone manufacturers

Qualcomm showcased the next upcoming Snapdragon 820 chipset in MWC (Mobile World Congres) which was held in March 2015 previously. Hopefully the chipset will be able to solve the overheating issue which plagued the predecessor Snapdragon 810 chipset.


Snapdragon 820 chipset is reported to be integrated with custom-designed 64-bit CPU cores called Kyro. If this information is correct then the cores will be clocked up to 3.0 GHz and will be manufactured using Samsung’s 14nm node manufacturing technology. With this information, it is hinted that Qualcomm will be partnering with Samsung instead of TSMC to manufacture its chipset. Beforehand, Qualcomm always partnered with TSMC to manufacture its chipset.


Some of the smartphone manufacturers which is going to test out the new chips are Sony, HTC and Xiaomi. Xiaomi is reported to use Snapdragon 820 chipset in the company’s next flagship smartphone Mi 5. The Xiaomi smartphone will be launched in October if everything going according to plan.


Since Snapdragon 820 is going to use Samsung’s 14nm node process which is the same process that Samsung did for the company’s own Exynos 7420 chipset and already being used for Galaxy S6 series, it seems like it is going to solve the overheating issue which found in Snapdragon 810. Snapdragon 810 was manufactured by TSMC on 20nm technology.

OnePlus Two to have Snapdragon 810 and 2500 Yuan pricing

OnePlus’s CEO Pete Lau has been discussing OnePlus Two with fans on the Chinese social network  Weibo. OnePlus Two is the successor to OnePlus One and would be the company’s next flagship.


Pete Lau posted on Weibo that OnePlus 2 will carry Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 processor when it launches in the third quarter of 2015. Although the 810 chip will become stale by then, it would be economical as its prices are expected to drop later and the phone would get a powerful chipset for a much lower price.

Lau also discussed about the pricing of OnePlus Two. He asked his followers on Weibo, “If OnePlus Two comes with Snapdragon 810, what do you think will be the price?”. He got several replies, and when someone said 2499 Yuan (about $403), Lau said that it was “reasonable”.


Interestingly, OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei asked the same question on Twitter and followers suggested various prices. Carl Pei wrote “Sounds reasonable” to the price of “400$”.


 






This doesn’t seem to be a coincidence and the price of OnePlus Two will probably be around $400.


Apart from Snapdragon 810, OnePlus Two is rumored to come with a 5.5-inch QHD display, 4GB of RAM and a 3,300mAh battery. The phone will be offered through an invitation system. OnePlus is also working on another affordable smartphone in the OnePlus family which will also be released this year.

Additional details about HTC One M9 camera sensor and SoC clock speed leaked

HTC’s new flagship One M9 which is going to be unveiled on March 1 at the MWC in Barcelona, has seen numerous leaks up till now. Just recently we saw its renders, specs and other details leaked. Now a new leak has emerged, this time from Twitter that gives some additional details about the HTC One M9 specs.


According to the leaks, the new HTC flagship is supposed to have an improved 20MP rear camera. Spigen’s HTC One M9 cases appearing for pre-order on Amazon also confirmed it. Now this new tip by Roland Quandt claims “filling in the blanks” for the said phone regarding its 20MP camera. According to him, the camera will feature f/2.2 aperture and 27.8 mm lens. This means that the camera might not be Sony’s 20MP snapper that has been used in smartphones such as Xperia Z3 and Meizu MX4, but may be of some other make.


 




 


Another leakster Ricciolo tipped PhoneArena that the camera sensor in One M9 is made by Toshiba which is another big surprise from HTC after the huge 5X jump in its camera compared to One M8. This reliable tippster claims that the size of the camera sensor is 1/2.4” which is a little smaller than Sony’s.


 




 


Roland Quandt has also confirmed that the HTC One M9 will be powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 SoC. It will have 4 cortex-A57 cores clocked at 2GHz and 4 cortex-A53 clocked at 1.5GHz. The new HTC phone will run Android 5.0.2 with the company’s own Sense 7 UI on top.


Well, we will know for sure in a few days as the MWC 2015 is just round the corner.

The new Samsung Exynos 7420 SoC offers more power efficiency compared to 20nm processors

Qualcomm recently introduced its new Snapdragon 810 octa-core chipset that is likely to be seen in most of the flagship handsets for 2015. Now Korean giant Samsung is putting up a straight competition to Qualcomm as it is almost likely that the company would use its own home baked Exynos 7420 chipset for its next flagship the Galaxy S6.


The Exynos 7420 benchmark shows a new spectacular chipset giving almost similar performance to the Snapdragon 810 chipset and is designed with a 14nm process. The Exynos 7420 chipset that comes with an octa-core CPU and a Mali-T760 graphics support is said to consume almost 30-35 % less power as compared to the previous 20nm chipsets. Thus this might be the reason why Samsung has still preferred to keep only 2600mAh for its next Galaxy S6 flagship.


This new Exynos chipset is made with a three-dimensional FinFET transitor technology that over comes the limitations of 2D planar structure. This 14nm process is being used by Intel too for its desktops, but Samsung is the first company to bring it to mobile technology. The company is likely to continue using this process to its other NAND memory chips.


If the chip is a big success for its next flagship, we could probably see it making home to other flagship Galaxy handset coming ahead this year.

Samsung’s new 14nm Exynos 7890 chipset said to be under works

Just when Samsung is yet to crack the nut and prove its prowess with Exynoss 7 series chipsets, there is big news that has emerged. There has been quite a lot of talk about Samsung planning to drop the Snapdragon 810 chipset and put the company’s home baked Exynos 7420 chipset, into its upcoming flagship handset the Samsung Galaxy S6. The recent reports from the industry show that the company is working on two more 7 series chipsets the Exynos 7890 and the Exynos 7650. This information has been provided by popular tech website PhoneArena based on a LinkedIn profile that it received.


The Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 has been built using a 20nm process and now the reports claim that these two Exynos 7 series chipsets will be built on the 14nm process. Qualcomm too is said to shift this year to the 14nm process. It would be great to see the company coming out with more powerful devices with these new chipset baked in them.

Samsung taking on Qualcomm by using its own Exynos chipset in Galaxy S6

Samsung is using its own Exynos chipsets instead of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 in its new upcoming flagship smartphone Galaxy S6. It seems this decision of Samsung’s is not because of so-called overheating issues with Qualcomm’s latest SoC as alleged by the TSMC foundry, but is actually because the Korean company wants to take on the world famous chip maker with its 14nm technology.


According to the Korean media, industry sources say that both Snapdragon 810 and Exynos 7420 chipsets are already being incorporated in various new flagships. Samsung is using Exynos in its Galaxy S6 while Snapdragon 810 is being used in LG G Flex 2 and Xiaomi Mi Note. After some earlier mishaps with overheating of Samsung’s Exynos 5 series, Samsung began to use more of Qualcomm chipsets but now it is back with Exynos 7420 that will go into the Galaxy S6.


Samsung will be using the superior 14nm technology for manufacturing the Exynos 7420, while Qualcomm is still using the old 20nm process for its Snapdragon 810 and is moving on the 14nm process only this year. 14nm technology means smaller footprint, superior performance and lower power consumption which takes Samsung a step ahead of Qualcomm.


Qualcomm has of course announced that the heating problem with its Snapdragon 810 has been solved. Snapdragon SoCs are famous for their multi-band LTE modems, but Samsung has now developed its own LTE Cat. 9 radio which will actually be built on 20nm, while Qualcomm’s LTE radio is on 28nm. While Snapdragon 810 allows 4K encoding-decoding and streaming, it is not known what Exynos is capable of, but knowing Samsung, we needn’t be too worried.

Qualcomm said to update its Snapdragon 810 chipset for Samsung Galaxy S6

There has been quite a lot of suspicion going on with whether Samsung would bake the Snapdragon 810 chipset in its next flagship. Moreover, the recent sources have claimed that the initial 90% of Samsung Galaxy S6 devices would come with the company’s home made Snapdragon 810 chipset. Additionally, Qualcomm is also struggling to work upon the heating issues with its octa-core Snapdragon 810 chipset. Recently LG came out as the first company to support this chipset in its newly launched LG G Flex 2. LG however claimed that it itself is able to work upon the heating issues with the chipset maybe with some software algorithm.


Now the recent report shows that chip making giant Qualcomm is working on a re-design of its chipset to come over with the heat emission issue and should come with a solution for this till March when Samsung is expected to launch its next flagship the Galaxy S6. It seems that Qualcomm need to work upon it soon as many smartphone manufacturers would want to launch their high-end flagships ahead this year.

Last year in 2014, Chinese startup OnePlus gained a lot of attention in the smartphone industry with its first ever flagship smartphone the OnePlus. The device hosted some very spectacular specs then and came with a affordable pricing beneath it. Now the company is said to be working upon its successor the OnePlus Two that is expected to be launched this year ahead and rumors for the same have already started floating in.


The co-founder of OnePlus has recently said in the media that the next flagship from the company would “surprise people”. However, Carl Pei the co-founder said that the display for the successor has been changed many times and we can expect a 5.5inch panel with QHD resolution of 1440×2560 pixels.


Additionally, earlier reports claimed it to be having a Snapdragon 805 chipset as the first choice but now latest rumors show the OnePlus Two to be coming with a 64bit Snapdragon 810 chipset supported with whopping 4GB of RAM memory and a 3300mAh of battery back-up. Samsung Galaxy Note 4 with Snapdragon 810 gets benchmarked

Earlier this week, there were a bit of rumors of the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 to come with a Snapdragon 810 baked within. Geekbench website has now arrived with an recent evidence of such a Galaxy Note 4 having a model number SM-916S, running the Android 5.0 Lollipop and powered with an eight-core MSM8994 chipset which is none another but the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chipset. The regular existing Note 4 has a model number SM-N910.


However, reports show that the Snapdragon 810 powered Galaxy Note 4 might previously be released in South Korea in the home-town. Design wise it is believed to be looking very similar to the current model of the handset and as such there is no word from the company regarding its release date.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 SoC to support speeds up to 450 Mbps for LTE

It seems chip making giant Qualcomm  is all set to raise the processing bar further. The upcoming Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 is already in talks and is highly speculated as the next chipset to be seen in most of the flagship Android smartphones to be released in 2015. However, few days back there were rumors floating in the industry that the company is facing out some problems with new chipset, but Qualcomm has assured that everything is on track and the chipset would be released in the first half of 2015 as per the schedule. The good thing is that the company has went out announcing that this new chip would support LTE speed networks such as the Cat 9 LTE offering some peak download speeds of 450Mbps. This is higher than the current 300Mbps speed offered by the existing Snapdragon 805.


The maximum upload speed remains as to 50Mbps which has been consistent since that Cat 3 LTE. We could probably see an higher upload speed of 100Mbps in LTE Cat 10 for which we need to wait for some more longer period. The upcoming Snapdragon 810 will utilize three 20MHz carriers simultaneously through carrier aggregation that will help it achieve the maximum download speeds of 450Mbps. According to Qualcomm, they have already tested “multiple commercial network and test equipment companies, as well as an over-the-air demonstration in a commercial network environment” and have arrived with satisfactory results. Qualcomm revealed its flagship 64-bit chipsets named as the Snapdragon 810 and 808 in April. According to the Qualcomm’s Senior Director of Marketing, the company has already sent the sample chipsets to the device makers and the first launch is expected in starting half of the next year.


Exynos 5433 of Samsung and Apple’s A8 made by TSMC are using the technology that will be used by the Snapdragon 810 and 808, i.e. 20nm process. The present Snapdragons are using 28nm process.


The two new chipsets, the Snapdragon 810 and 808, are supportive of both operating systems – 32-bit and 64-bit. The manufacturers will have the choice to select the one they like. Snapdragon will support 64-bit Android L from the start.



These new Qualcomm chipsets are not the only ones with 64-bit support; other chipsets to support it are the Snapdragon 410, 610 and 615. All new and old chipsets use ARM processor cores and not new Krait design.



Own GPU is used by Qualcomm. Adreno 430 is the GPU for the Snapdragon 810, when compared with the Adreno 420 present in Snapdragon 805, it will increase the 30% performance. In the Snapdragon 808, Adreno 418 can be found which is 30% better than the old Adreno 330.



These two new chipsets will support LPDDR4 RAM. These two have Category 6 LTE connectivity on the wireless side which is common as the Snapdragon 805. The demos of the Snapdragon 810 and 808 devices are expected at CES.

A tweet scattered by evleaks, reveals that the successor to the LG G Flex is expected to be released by Q1 2015. Tipster said on Twitter, “LG G Flex 2 is possibly coming with a feature even more unique than self-healing plastic.”








The original LG G Flex had a 6-inch screen and chances are that its follow-up will keep the same display size. . The rumored release date suggests that it could also be one of the first devices in the Android Silver program,a new initiative to replace the Nexus range. It might be one of the first smartphones to feature a Qualcomm MSM8994 SoC. That’s the octo-core big LITTLE Snapdragon 810 chip, which is also expected to appear early next year.








Last year reports already claimed that LG was going to make the LG G Flex 2 bendable at a 90 degree angle, somewhat akin to a clamshell handset.The LG G Flex wasn’t a very popular product among the lovers of the big-screen smartphones and, probably,one of the reasons was the resolution of its 6-inch screen. The original G Flex had 720 resolution, but LG already promised to bring better and higher-resolution flexible display panels later this year.








We will have to wait and see if these rumors come to fruition. The LG G Flex 2 is a device worth keeping tabs on.
